The Things They Carried

Almost done this Tim O'Brien book. And I'm loving every word. It is seriously, I think, the best book I've read in years. I know this is perhaps old news, but I just picked it up last weekend and I have a few pages to go.

If you've read it, or perhaps read other Tim O'Brien books, I'd love to hear your thoughts. This is writing at its best, IMO.

My DH was making fun of me b/c I was feeling a little self-conscious about reading my 'Nam stories while listening to one of my son's Franklin CDs. What other SAHM out there is getting so engrossed in war stories?

Hooray! Things They Carried is on my list of all time faves.

I believe a talented writer is one who can make a book come to life --- even if it is not on a topic you would ever read willingly (that's how I was). I also really enjoyed (is that the word I'm looking for) If I die in a Combat Zone. Did not enjoy his post-Vietnam (stories set later than that time period) quite as much.

Kimbalicious-Whew! I'm so glad to hear your comments. I will check out Combat Zone from the library soon, too. It sounds great. You know, I am an equal-opportunity reader. Sometimes I like some lighter stuff, sometimes popular stuff, sometimes best-sellers, and sometimes less-known stuff. And this, although it was very popular when published, caught my attention recently. I am sooo glad I read it. I am now on to some "fun" reading: The DaVinci Code.
