Our little girl finally came at 41wks! Zina Kiri was born April 6th, 2005. She weighed 7lbs 4oz and is 19in long.
The birth didn't quite go as planned. I started having contractions at 2:30 that morning. We went to the hospital just before 5am. They monitored the baby for a little bit and she wasn't doing very well. Her heart rate kept dropping, especially if I was standing up. sometimes it dropped below 100 BPM. My blood pressure was also too high. So my ideal natural labor turned into 4 hours stuck in a bed with a nurse constantly monitoring my baby.
It was very stressful, and very painful being stuck in bed. I wasn't able to move very much because then the nurses would lose the baby's heart beat. Most of the time a nurse was pushing on the monitor to pick up her HR, that hurt really bad during my contractions.
Being stuck in bed like that was too much for me and I had an epidural (which only took effect on the right side of my body). After the epidural the nurse put a cath in and emptied my bladder. I then went from a 6 to 10 in less than 15 minutes.
She had pooped in the womb and had almost no fluid left. She was covered in green when she came out. The NICU nurses were on hand to suction her out. She had a hard time getting pink and her oxygen level was at 80. Her blood sugar was also too low. She was borderline on having to be admitted to the NICU. Her skin was a grey color and it was pretty scary there for awhile.
Finally they gave her to me to see if she would nurse and warm up. They laid her skin to skin with me and then wrapped us up with heated blankets. She took to nursing like a champ! Her oxygen levels immediately went up to 100 and after awhile she was gaining some color. Amazing what a little mama time and milk can do.
We are both doing really well and she is a very good baby.
