I want to make a cover/pad for my ds's high chair. It's one of those plastic ones with the plastic covered pads, but they're long dead. What's the best material to use? I was thinking if I used something cushy I wouldn't have to worry about adding padding, like 2 layers of fleece. But wouldn't that be too hot for the summer?

Best fabric for high chair pads?

Did you want a cloth one to wash in the washing machine or one that you can wipe off? I like to wipe them off myself.
I used vinyl from the fabric store to sew a new chair pad for my high chair. I didn't add any padding either, it seemed cushy enough. It was pretty easy to sew too, and my teflon foot was a big help.
I kind of wanted to use real oilcloth but I didn't have the time to wait for a internet delivery and it would have cost 3 times as much. More than I paid for the chair, really.

I found some quilted cotton onasburg cloth (sort of a loose weave, looks like linen) that was double sided at JoAnn. It has made a great chair cover and I made it reversible so I can flip it if it gets smeared before I have a chance to wash it, plus it's doublely cushy

Then I like that polar fleece doesn't stain. Or a dark cotton would be good. I have a self-feeder right now and the thought of putting a cover in the washer even half as much as I take it off and scrub it down now is exhausting.
Maybe you have children like my sister who don't insist on sitting on their bananas first?

My mom's high chair is covered in oilcloth, which feels like cloth but is wipeable. It's nice. I think polar fleece would be way too warm in the summer. What about a quilted cotton?

I was thinking of one of those pre-quilted fabrics as well. Some are even reversible!
Thanks for giving me a great idea, btw. DD has an old 1960's metal highchair with a vinyl seat that I've been wanting to recover. I think now I'll just sew up a few removable covers/pads.
