Help - new (to me) machine -no book!

My MIL just gave me her old sewing machine. It is a Necchi 503FA. I found instructions for threading it and it looks all ready to go. My problem is that the top thread keeps getting hung up down by the bobbin and the machine stops. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? I haven't used a sewing machine since 7th grade home ec.

I don't have that kind of sewing machine, but I would check if the needle is in correctly. My needles have a flat side, and if I put them in wrong, it gets all weird. I would also check your bobbin is in correctly. Since you dont have a book, play with it some.

Oh, and you might be able to find a book for it on line some where if you hunt.
