Can anyone tell me if this is a term that pre-teen girls use to refer to themselves, or is it too uncool of a term for them to actually use?

My daughter can't stand that term...she refers to herself as a "pre-teen". She will be 10 in a few days, by the way, maybe girls a little older would feel differently.

Rain thinks tween is dumb.
She also doesn't think 9 is preteen... and she sometimes used the term preteen to describe herself, but usually just says 12.

I've got an 11 year old here (she'll be 12 late this year) and she doesn't really think much of it either way really. It's not a word she uses to describe herself, but just another word I guess. Like Rain, she usually says Pre teen or just her age.

My 10y/o just says her age as well, although she's certainly aware of the term "tween."
Actually, last night we were discussing a commercial where they were telling us that parents should have control of the tv remote (meaning control what their kids watch, of course.) I jokingly used that argument to get the remote, saying, "See, it says PARENTS should be in control, not kids" (meaning, it was my turn to choose a program.) Dd used the argument that they weren't "kids" anymore, they were a teen and a "tween." so it didn't apply to them.
That's the only time I've heard her refer to herself as a tween.

Dd, who is almost 11, refers to herself as a pre-teen, usually in the context of "but mom, I'm a pre-teen, and that's how pre-teens are supposed to act". Usually referring to messy rooms/sass/etc.

Dd, who is 10 y.o., loves being a "pre-teen". She thinks it's cool. She knows what a 'tween is but doesn't use that term.
