What is a harajuku girl? Gwen Stefani sings about htem an awful lot in this cd(Love Angel Music Baby) but I have no idea really what she's talking about. fashionable japanese girls? I dunno. tried google, came up with about ten billion sites with lyrics to the songs but no explanations.

Anyone know?

It's an area in Toyko where all the cool kids hung out, they had the best/wildest fashion. There is a Japanese magazine called Fruits that has the Harajuku scene featured. They also made a book, that I LOVE! These people's clothing is so inspiring. Here is one site I got that shows some of the pictures from Fruits:

Too funny this thread should pop up because Dd and I cannot stop singing "If I was a rich girl" and her new one, and we were wondering about this too. Like you we googled. Good to know

FeministFatale did a good job of describing it. I used to live in Tokyo and the Harajuku girls are wild! It is a very fashionable, trendy (expensive!!) area near Shibuya in downtown Tokyo. Lots of shops with crazy fashion and harajuku girls take it to the extreme. Some things change over time but some things stay the same with them. THey gather every Sunday afternoon outside of Yoyogi Park in their most outrageous fashions. Big tourist draw.

I have a friend who has a pretty cool site in Tokyo and you can see some pics there:
