Can you detox a house?

We jstu bought a new house. It has new carpet, new paint, and all that jazz. Tracy's behavior, and even Bryce's has been erratic. IT may just be moving to a new house but I'm wondering about all the chemicals.

Ahat can I do to make us "clean"?

First - open all the windows and let it air out! Maybe try sprinkling baking soda on the carpet to suck up all the chemicals, then vacuuming it up?

New home chemicals CAN make you sick. My parents build a house and moved in and within a couple weeks my mom came down with a massive sinus infection that was so bad, she was nearly hospitalized and was on antibiotics for two months. My mom has allergies and asthma and realized all the chemicals in new carpeting were doing it to her. Cleaning the carpets did help too.

Oddly enough, my bil, who has asthma, had a major attack at church once - we're talking turned blue and stopped breathing attack. My mil was trying to figure out what caused it and I said "Could it be all the new carpeting at church?" (You were hit with the smell of new carpet as soon as you walked in.) They went to a different church for a few weeks until the new carpet fumes wore off.

Everything posted above and see if you can rent or buy a good air-purifier. We have Living Air brand. It will help with the odors. But it is really important to open windows as much as you can while the new stuff is off-gassing. If it's a new house you will also have new linoleum ( unless you used ceramic tile) and new particle board used in the building materials and new counters and cabinets etc. Good luck.

ETA- if you do clean the carpets use a nonscented cleaner if possible.

I would get a bunch of Spider Plants, they help take some toxins out of the air. Cant remeber exactly what. I know my parents used them when they had just put some chip board in because of the glue used they got a bunch of those plants. I love the varigated ones.

Congrats on the new house

I've been wiping down the walls with my vinegar solution. Partly to clean off construction dust.

I just vacuumed the steps with baking soda. Tomorrow I'm mopping the kitchen floor.

We already have an air purifier going too.

Thanks for the advise
