Mold - Ack!

We have mold in the house. I know this b/c I found where the previous owners painted over it in hopes to hide it (it's coming through the paint though.) The house is on a slab foundation and I think water's seeping in a certain area - that's carpeted. I fear what the carpet padding must look like underneath.

Anyway, I think the mold's making us sick. We have had one thing after the other almost the entire 6 months we've lived here, and my youngest has had an almost constant stuffy nose (after being pefectly healthy before.)

Luckily, it's a rental, we'll be moving soon (next month or so), but meanwhile, what can I do to kill this mold? Someone suggested bleach, but the baseboard is right along the carpet and I don't think the owners would like it if I bleached their carpeting. Besides, I don't want the baby to come into contact with it.

Any suggestions?

when they painted they should have used TSP or bleach. not sure what you can do now if it's under the paint short of sanding down all the old paint/mold and repainting the right way. can you appeal to the landlord?

I have it in the bathroom - obvious that the owner's just painted over it, and now it is growing up thru the paint. Since it is a rental, I can't paint over it....

I would love to know some solutions too - that aren't going to give me an asthma attack.

So, just jumping in on this thread.

no! dont sand! you will scatter spores all over your home!

i live in the middle of 4-hurricanes-in-one season-land. trust me, i know more about mold than i ever wanted to. here is the link for the FL state DOH mold remediation site. my landlord will not properly fix the drywall, so i'm outta here, lease be damned! we have all had "sinus infections" that have not stopped for months, but our wussie doctor wont say its from the mold.

check out the laws from your state. you may not have to pay rent until its properly (ie safely) fixed. i dont.
