I have a fabric one I got in college, it's called my Double or something like that. It's a soft foam base with a heavy fabric cover that zips on. You put it on yourself and fit it to you and then squeeze it onto the foam form. It didn't work great because I have very high hips so there was a pooch in the form that I had to fill in with foam shoulder pads. I also did the fitting myself so it probably wasn't as good as it could have been. It was good for fitting, but a little squooshy to pin onto. Nowadays, I don't wear anything fitted enough to warrant a great dress form

Here's link to an article about tape dress forms. They look like they'd really work. I am trying to fity my super wide shoulders. I certainly won't be wearing anything snug these days tho lol
no way no how.

AWESOME LINK!!!!!

I'm afraid of patterns. I just try and make things for myself, which, surprisingly come out ok most times. (Were not talkin suits here or anything maybe a sundress or halter top! haha) I always wind up trying it on about 50 times to try & get it right. This could help me. AND I can quit eyeing the $200 one at the fabric store.

Well if you can wear a halter top then you can probably get past having someone wrap your near naked body in shiny silver stuff :LOL

sigh...youth.....

Seriously it looks like it would be very useful - not for very precise fitting for for things like determining drape and for me solving the shoulder/bosom issues.
some of the stories I've read indicate that most people discover things they didn't know, like one shoulder was a little lower than the other, etc...

There is also instructions somewhere for a pants form. that would be cool

Here's the link to detailed instructions for a fee. read some of the taping stories. They are hysterical.

I have taped my mother and my sister. They require some tweaking in the end to get them right. They turn out bigger than you of course, so as noted, close fitting garments don't work well. They are easy to do tho, and pretty inexpensive, so I would go for it. I overstuffed one and it caused the tape to pull apart in a few places. Easily fixed with an exacto knife and more tape. I have been debating on whether to do one for me or go for a fitted muslin instead. So, for now I have nothing , but no time to sew anyway.
