Good GD book for toddlers specifically?

Hi everyone,

I have a dd who is 27 months old and I'm looking for a good gd book to read. We live in Italy so I can't just go to the library or bookstore to browse books in English. I've bought and read "Liberated Parents, Liberated Children" from the internet. I liked it a lot but I feel like it's not really for young toddlers. I've been finding myself in difficult situations lately (for example, tantrums) and feel like i need some kind of guide or ideas. I love reading the gd forum but don't have a lot of time to just browse or sit in front of computer.
All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I should be paid for how many people I've been telling to read Unconditional Parenting, by Alfie Kohn.

I also liked Raising your Spirited Child, but that's more about "feisty" kids like mine than just your average toddler.

Unconditional Parenting is not totally specific to toddlers, but I really wish I'd read it earlier. No specific "5 Steps to handling a tantrum" stuff, but a lot of advice and reassurrance.

Good luck!

I second "Unconditional Parenting". Even though I'm only midway reading the book, I can say that this is the top all-around parenting and discipline book I have read since it's very research-oriented, written in a conversational manner, and taking into account beliefs, culture and psychology. It's a great book.

I also use the Discipline Book, The Baby Book (great section on young toddlers, the 1-2 yrs. group) and the Positive Discipline series. Positive Discipline: The First Three Years has helped me in that it helped me see ds in a new light, understand him better and given me ideas and techniques that respect his development.

I have to warn, though, if you are going to read Positive Discipline: The First Three Years, ignore the whole infant part as well as the sleep section. They are not AP friendly. I am

Nevertheless, I got great general ideas from this book and a respect for the dignity of the little person living in my home. This book and all in the Positive Discipline series is about treating your children with kindness and firmness without punishment of any kind. I highly recommend "Positive Discipline for Preschoolers" for the older toddler. Again, ignore the sleep part, but it has great gems otherwise

I'm really enjoying "Easy to Love, Hard to Discipline" (I really dislike the title though )

There was a good thread on it a few weeks back though I don't remember if it was in GD or the Toddler forum....

: I also love this book (and very very much disliked the title)

Also recommended: The Discipline Book by Dr. Sears. A lot of the books info can be found on his website Dr. Sears Tips on Discipline
