What would you suggest?

As many of you know I am making VB aios. I have been making mediums for my now 4 month old (today). Well this morning I took my 28 month old to the ER because he could not urinate . Basically he has sensitive skin and the Drs believe that irritation from diapers on the tip of his penis has now caused a adhesion just inside his urethra. He has been wearing fuzzi bunz 70% of the time, and that is what he wears at night. He is in a size Large and has been since 10 months old. Some of these fbs are just pilly and thin. So I think what I need to do is make him some VB aios. I only have 1 large that I purchased. So my question is what would be the best layer next to his skin?
OC velour? Does velour pil? Any other suggestions on this issue? He is not yet ready to PT. I was going to start making larges in a few weeks anyway for #2, I guess I will just go ahead and start as soon as I get the stuff.
I just ordered more stuff from the diapershop and asked if the birdeye can be changed to unbleached on my previous order if not too late. Should I change to fitted and wool combo on him? I just want to know what you ladies think my be the least irritating?

I think that OV velour might be best, it seems to stay soft even after repeated washings. I haven't had the same luck with sherpa or other fabrics. My organic cotton is pretty darn soft too. Maybe you could make some doublers topped with OV to use with your other diapers. I would also go to a natural detergent routine, I can't remember what works best but I will check it out.

Fitteds and wool or just fitteds coverless for a while might be a good idea as well. Maybe cross-post to Diapering too.

Did they say that they have found this problem with disposable kids? I am suspicious they are blaming CDs because they are different. I also wonder if anyone in the Circumcision board might be of help to you.

Well this started and I thought is was over last fall when he was in disposables when with the grandparents (they babysit when I work). I had him in cloth at home all the time. The urologist thought it was not the type of diaper but just that there is a diaper.kwim? He was fine until the sposies and has not had a problem since (only cloth except when he hadsthe flu with diarrhea) except today. I use bioclean on the diapers and inserts but have been using all free and clear on the cover. I also use one or the other on his clothing. No problems with either there. (I read somewhere that bioclean should not be used on pul) I think some of the FBs are so threadbare they irritate. I need to make large aios for #2 anyway the FBs will not last another baby and since I can sew vb aios that is what i was planning on doing. Thanks for your input.

If he's super sensitive, I would go with something smooth. Something piley like velour may rub more when wet??? Just a thought. A friend of mine can't use many textures on her son or he breaks out, so everything has to be smooth side out.

Good luck figuring it out Ali. That is a tough one, I think it will be trial and error. I would start with as natural and chemical free fabrics as I could if I were you.

Davina, I am the same way actually. I hate pile fabrics against my skin, they are very irritating. That is why I have such a love affair with organic cotton fleece and jersey. So soft.
