waldorf verses?

Thread Starter
i am a grad of lifetime waldorf schooling with a 2yr old DS. we have been saying a verse before dinner and i realized that i only know one verse. i've heard of books with verses for meals, bedtime, etc. any recommendations for these? i'd prefer if they not be overtly religious -- more along the lines of honoring the day, the earth, etc. actually, any sources, even beyond books, would be great.

thanks,
megin

Earth who give to us this food
Sun who makes it ripe and good
Dearest earth and dearest sun
We'll not foget what you have done
Blessings on our food

OR

Maybe faith in the spirit of life
And hope in the community of earth
And love in the sacred in ourselves and eath other
Be ours this day
And in all the days to come

OR

We gather 'round this table
Our bodies are renewed

Our hearts appease their hunger
For we feast on more than food

We do this one slightly differently:

Earth who gives us all our food
Sun who makes it ripe and good
Dear Earth Dear Sun
Our thanks we give
For this food that helps us live.

It's the only one I know by heart.

There is an excellent book called Seven Times the Sun by Shea Darian that has several verses and songs for daily rhythms. HTH!

Another REALLY good one is A Child's Seasonal Treasury by Betty Jones. It has a ton of verses, prayers, songs, etc. arranged by season and special life events.

Amazon has it now for a great price too! Like 30% of the list price:

Write your own. When ds gets older he can write one. I have written many verses for my family. I sing a lot instead of reciting the verses. You can change the verses to fit the season or events that are happening in your life.

I have songs for waking, bathing, transitioning, sleeping, playing, going for a walk....you name it. Once you start using a song or verse during one part of your day, like your meals, then take that to a different part of your day like waking.

You Can Sing Naturally is a series of cds with beautiful books filled with lovely songs that you can sing to and later with your children. Both of my boys love these songs.

Also, I highly reccomend http://christopherushomeschool.org/ to anyone who is using Waldorf in the home. I have four of Donna's books and she has been an incredible help to me. Her book Kindergarten for your 3-6 year old has some lovely verses in it.

Go to the library and look through some children's poetry books, memorize some nursery rhymes. HTH.
