Embroidery from photo?

OK, tell me if this could ever work...

I really like tidepools, so I had this idea: I could take a picture of one, and then try to embroider it. But the only embroidery I really know is cross-stitch, and how would I turn the photo into a pattern? I don't really know how to draw. Has anyone done anything like this?

You could use a service like this:photo to chart service . Here is a list of lots more companies offering this service: List . I wouldn't be surprised to find software available to do it yourself.
