Any other Gabaldon fans want to talk about Claire and Jamie? - Page 9

Try the Lake in the Clouds series by Sara Donati (sp?).

Just so you know what a dork I am, I originally read the LitC series because I heard she mentions (and yes, I knew it was like two sentences) Jamie and Claire in, I think, the second book.

All that reading for two sentences. Lucky the series was pretty good on it's own. It's no Outlander, but then...what is!

I bet he'd look nice in a kilt! And in fact his wife, Jennifer Connely, would make a nice Claire but not exactly the person I was thinking of.

Hm, he's a possibility! I'd have to see how he looks with red hair, and what kind of build he has!

I'm pretty sure in the Outlandish Companion DG explains the "don't get fat" comment, but it's been a while since I read it, so I don't remember what she said!

This is how I read it: she had just talked to her friend (Abernathy? sp?) about her own looks and he told her people pretty much always look the same. He made an analogy to class reunions and how at first, everyone looks so strange and then it's like no time has passed at all then he added, unless they've gained a lot of weight. Right after that Claire decided to go back and left the letter for Bree. I thought she was telling her not to get fat so that if they met again, she'd (Claire) recognize her (Bree)...like it wasn't literal advice, but a refrence to that conversation.

I Loved, loved that book- so excited to read the series; the 2nd book was ok, and the 3rd was *horrible*, it was so disappointing!

I read it long before I even knew about outlander- so jamie and claire are mentioned in that book??? In what context? This is making me want to re-read it!

I thought when my sister & I were reading it we came up with 8 stone being roughly 135 lbs. I can't remember our reasoning though.

Blessings,

I think 1 stone = 14 pounds, so 112. I don't really remember a specific mention of Claire's weight (there are so many details in these books, I'm amazed at the things people can remember).

I read the third book ages after the first two and there were a lot of things that didn't make sense because I just couldn't remember all the people and their various connections. There is a new book in the series, so I'm re-reading the first ones to catch up otherwise I'll never figure out what's going on!

J & C are mentioned very VERY briefly and I think it's the second book - it's just something about a doctor and her husband? I might not have made the connection, but I'd read about it (as I said, that's WHY I read the series). Apparently Donati is a fan of the Outlander series. I think I MAY have read this little bit of trivia in The Outlandish Companion.

Yeah, 14 pounds in a stone, 112 pounds is 8 stone.

I just realized that i started this thread. fun!

Yeah, about the "ample rump" thing: I always just pictured her as being somewhat J.Lo shaped. I mean, there is no way one could describe J.Lo as heavy, but her build definitely gives her an ample rear!

I finished #4 last night.
I'm getting the impression from the author that perhaps Scottish men are supposed to like ample rumps as its something Roger thinks about Brianna as well.

I will say I didn't at all like the connection that DG makes with "uncircumcised" and dirty with Bonnet. There could have been a kinder way to describe his dirtiness, a way that does not put down intact men as certainly nearly all people then were intact except Muslim and Jews.

So far I've had no problems with Brianna like others have mentioned. I will say I like Jamie and Claire far less in this book though. Claire has lost her edge, perhaps its having her daughter around that makes her more timid and less apt to speak her mind. I got the impression that she even feared Jamie and his temper. His temper seems to come out a lot more in this one. He's acting a bit like a raving father, over protective. I can hope that cools down a bit as he becomes used to being a father and grandfather.

I hope that in the following books Claire also shows her stronger, dominant side again. I felt like she was just tagging along most of this book.

OMGOODNESS!

I've come home!

I just stumbled on this thread and I'm so excited! I love Diana Gabaldon! I've read the seried twice and was contemplating reading it again. I even got my SIL turned on to it, even though she normally likes books that are completely different.

When my DH and I first started to get serious, I asked him if he would be jealous that I'm in love with a fictional Scottish character named James Frasier. He said he could share me.

I didn't even know that there was a sixth book in the series. I did read Lord John Grey and The Private Matter and thought it was decent, though I missed Jamie and Claire. I just checked the library and the sixth book is in so I'm headed over there right after work.

You guys have made my day! I'm just about to finish another series that I got sucked into and was a little worried about where I would go next. In case anyone is interested in a new series, it's called......Kushiell's Legacy? I think? Anyway, the first book is called Kushiell's Dart and it's by Jaqueline Carrey. I almost didn't read the entire first book, but I stuck through and it got better and better and I'm so glad I stuck with it. It's a different sort of story, but I'm enjoying it and I'm on the last book now, so I have to have something waiting for when I finish.

Something not related to pregnancy and birth!

I can't read this entire thread right now since I haven't read #6 and I hate spoilers, but it's so nice to know you're here!

That was my impression, too!

Nichole- glad you found the thread!

So I'm just reading Into the Wilderness again and she does mention C&J in the first book of the series. I found it last night. She also mentions Ian, which I missed the first time around.

In one of the other books, (2nd or 3rd) Jamie's intactness is mentioned as a positive.

I didn't take it as a positive thing but it was made obvious. It seemed like they were just discussing the differences and decided they didn't want him to get cut so they could find out.

May! MAY! The new book came out LAST MAY!!!! How come I didn't know????

So I told dh, and he came home with it today. Had to be hard cover, to match the rest. Of course, I don't get it until Christmas Day, but at least it's here!!

I thought I had subscribed to the thread, but apparently not. I lvoed the first few books. Then some of them were harder to get into. I think there were two I put down for awhile. Then another book pulled me back in. Of course I can't remember which was which. Am I the only one who felt that way? And it felt different with Jamie and Claire being older, they just didn't feel the same to me. It wasn't so much the first book after they were reunited, and maybe not even the next one, but I definitely felt that way in the last book.
