First, did you all see the Goo Behind the Music they used to run on VH-1? Wasn't it an incredible story? How about Goo Goo Dolls Live in Alaska? I love that DVD.
mmmummy--
DH and I met the guys at the Jones Beach, NY show of the Gutterflower tour. It was the funniest thing. Two days before the show I was cleaning my apartment and, about 10 seconds after turning on the radio, I heard the DJ talk about bringing canned food to the Goo Goo Dolls show that weekend. He said to put your name on the canned goods and drop them at the show for a chance to meet the band, so I pulled out about all I had and proceeded to put my name on them. It sounds totally bizarre, but I just knew I was going to meet them. I was putting my name on the cans and wondering stuff like "how are they going to pick? will they just call the name on a can? how will that person prove it's them?" etc. When it was time for the show I put the cans in a Kensington Palace plastic bag I had from my England trip (one I was saving for, I guess, a special trip :LOL) and told DH that the food needed a "good" bag. LOL. In the car on the way there, I was fixing my lipstick, etc., and DH just laughed at me when I said it had to be good for when we met the band.
So, we pull up about an hour or so before the show was to start, and we head into the gated area at Jones Beach. Right as we got to the gate, there was a shopping cart filled with canned food, but the weird thing is that there was NO ONE there. Cans were just piled up in the cart, on the ground around it, but there was no sign saying what it was and no person working the donation area at all. I walk up, place the bag in the cart, and immediately a woman comes up behind me and says "how'd you two like to meet the band?" If you could have seen the look on my husband's face. Let's just say he never doubts me now.

We get special passes and are told to be at a certain area in about an hour.
When we get to the line of people who are going to meet the band, the handlers keep saying "Ooh--you're the people who donated food. Make sure you stay in the back of the line." They kept saying that the Goos wanted to give us a special thank you. Apparently the other people in line were radio contest winners, etc. Some of them kept trying to get behind us after they heard that we should be last. They'd lag behind the LONG walk backstage so we'd have to pass them, but the guys working the line would always come and fix it. Some people are just nuts!
Anyway, when we got to the guys--it was just Johnny and Robby, no Mike--we got to shake their hands, say hi, and then get a picture. I'm in the middle of Johnny and Robby and they have their arms around me--DH knew that that had to happen!

They were such genuine guys, as anyone who knows about them surely knows, and they kept thanking US for bringing the food. It was awesome.
Well, there's a fun Goo story for everyone. I wish I could upload the picture I have of us meeting. Robby has a great smile in it but John looks TIRED and decidedly zombie-like. Unfortunately, I don't have a digital version of it (just the hardcopies and a magnet my mom made from the pic--LOL) and my old scanner can't seem to get along with my new Mac. Anyway, have a great weekend!

I also have good U2 and Third Eye Blind stories, but after that I'm fresh out. :LOL
