Jenny McCarthy's books

I picked up her book "Baby Laughs : The Naked Truth About the First Year of Mommyhood" at Costco the other day. I mean...who can resist a mother holding a naked baby on the cover of a book :LOL I flipped it over and started to read the back.

: She talks about how gross her son's penis looked when he was born. Like a small wrinkled French fry. She said something like "I never thought I would say this but I told them, just do it" in regards to the circumcism. And she is so happy with herself and her son’s "pretty penis" She kept referring to it as a "pretty penis" Ugh. And her dh said "why don't you call it his manly sward"

I didn't read the rest of the book description. No thanks. I see that she also has a book about her pregnancy. Yikes. Anyone read these books. Are they full of the same garbage?

That's awful. Yuck. Making money from talking like that! Blech.

Ugh. I always kind of liked Jenny McCarthy and thought she was funny. Hearing that she said that and did that to her baby boy changes everything!

Did she nurse?

I didn't look at the book long enough to find out but I heard back when she had her baby that she did. Who knows?

I read this book a long time ago just to see what it was about. She just came off very uneducated about real things while some things were a wee bit funny. I would never have bought it, took it out of the library. She is now out with a new book, I guess about the toddler years. It really burns me when celebrities write books and right away get a publisher just based on who they are. It's just wrong, I bet almost any mama on here could write a funny, yet educational book on AP but it would not see half as well as her book or that Ivoine woman!

Sad but true.

It's Jenny McCarthy! I've never been a fan, so I'm certain I wouldn't like her books. But she's definitely not pretending to be AP, or anything other than who she is. Plenty of people do like her and would enjoy her books (which is why it's so easy for her to get published - it's all about selling books, and she will).

I guess I'm surprised that someone would be surprised to find that in her books. She certainly doesn't appeal to everyone.

I read her "Belly Laughs" book in the beginning of my pregnancy - and I should have known not to expect too much out of her - but I did not like that book at all! I remember at one point in the book she mentioned how ONE apple was the only healthy thing that she ate throughout her whole pregnancy and that she lived off junk food. How can you seriously think that you're doing your baby good by eating junk food!?!

That's too bad. I always thought she was hilarious. She used to have a show a while back and I loved it. My sister and I still quote scenes from her shows. It was too funny.

I'm kinda sad she's not going down the AP path.

jeniferm, oh I totally agree that you sort of knew what you were getting when you got out the book, just based on how she is as a person. I never expected it to be AP in any way. I just think that it sucks that someone who is writing things that are really incorrect and not good ( ie: eating only junk while you are pg) can get published when there are tons of books to help you actually have a healthy pregnancy and they never see the light of day. Never was surprised by what I read, just by the lure of the almight buck I guess

she didn't bf. i remember seeing her on a talk show calling the LC that came to her room to talk to her a breastfeeding nazi because she was wearing a button that had a bottle with a circle and a line though it.

Dang, aren't her 15 minutes of fame over yet????

Mamabug - I agree it's sad. It's really too bad that people will pay for it.

Hmm. I wonder how many books she sells? Though I'm not interested in reading them, I don't think it's sad that people buy them. Yes, perhaps McCarthy's books don't truly help people, but neither do the romance novels (Nicholas Sparks, anyone?) that play up totally false expections of romantic relationships. I guess I just group them into the same category - page turners/entertainment. Some poor souls will read McCarthy's books and think she's a genius, and some poor souls will read "The Horse Whisperer" and wonder why their husband doesn't act like that. :LOL

reading this thread is making me wonder what we need to do to write an ap bestseller.

Nope. She said publicly that she didn't and that she was worried about her implants harming her baby. I think she said, "I just love him so much that I didn't want to harm him" or something like that. I remember my reaction being, "So NURSE him!"

I think she has since befriended Pam Anderson so maybe Pam will set her straight before she has another baby...
