Any other UCers in here? - Page 2

Can a doula be present in an unassisted birth?

I have a doula friend that is still working on her certification and we were planning this birth to be her last certifying birth. If she attended, would she have to be there "as a friend" and not claim the birth?

TIA!

Depending on who she's certifying with, she couldn't count the birth for certification purposes. Most certifying groups require an eval by a professional and all (that I know of) require tham from the mom/parents. She can attend of course as a doula or "friend" whatever you'd like to call her. Some people consider even a doula to be "professional" and won't call it a UC if one is present but I don't think I'ma professional anything, I'm just an upholder of the normalcy of birth who doesn't do anything medical which opts me out of being a "medical professional"
Namaste, Tara
