We just got Vonage and I love it! We have a cable modem through the cable company. The cable, modem, and Vonage is still cheaper than our monthly BellSouth bill!! I had Lingo before this and DO NOT get Lingo. I had to file a BBB complaint against them because they refused to terminate my service so that I could "port" my number to Vonage and keep the same phone number. Lingo's service sucks - the phone will just cut off at exactly 2 minutes sometimes just because. Ack.

anyway Vonage is great. You can call anywhere in the U.S. and Canada I believe. The only difference is that you do have to pay like $5 extra for a fax line if you want that. I have also noticed that the further distance i call (sometimes I call to Phoenix, AZ), there is a slight delay in the conversation. But hey, for 80 cheaper I'll live with a delay.

So far the customer service is great. They even credited my first month's service just because I was switching from their competitor.

I have Vonage, we have for almost three months now.

I have no issue with the service, it truly is cheaper and I can call anywhere in the US and Canada for free 24-7. And with no taxes or fees, it's like $27 a month. And if you refer someone, you get a credit for your next month's service.

We have a cable modem so no worries about DSL, but I am not sure you can use DSL with it because of the local companies usually requiring their own phone service for DSL.

MY beef with Vonage: Good luck getting through their automated phone service and actually talking to a person. You can do it, but it is NOT self-evident how and it takes a long time. And transferring my number has been a nightmare. They say it can take 21 days and it's been 2.5 months so far and they are only just now doing it. However, once that is done, I believe I will have a lot less complaints.

Overall I recommend it if you have broadband, it saves so much money.

I've had Vonage for about 3 months as well and no problems at all! I have the basic 14.99 a month plan and with taxes I believe it's 16.93 or something. Saves me sooooo much money. I dont have DSL either though so I dont know how that works. I have cable. It was a pain for us to hook it up but neither of us are computer smart. LOL

I just started with SunRocket last week, and so far so good. I have cable internet, so I was able to cut off my phone service entirely. If I'd had DSL I'd have had to keep some minimal service with Verizon, and it wouldn't have been as cheap--probably wouldn't have been worth it.

I'm paying $199 for a year's service, unlimited in the US and Canada, with a $3/month allowance for overseas calls (rates per minute vary) included. That works out to less than $17/month. The long distance really makes it worth it to me--long distance is the main reason I've kept my cell phone plan, and now I can downgrade that plan to a minimum. The cheapest package I could get for Verizon locally was 29.99/month, no long distance, and charged additional per call. By the time they add on taxes and fees, it's close to $40/month.

I've got a month to decide if I like it, and so far so good.

Hmm, I've wondered about Vonage too. Right now I'm using my cell phone for long distance.

Let us know how it goes, Emilie. I may be right behind you signing up!
