To make or buy?

Man, I'm full of questions today! But, do you think it easier or cheaper to buy inserts for your pocket dipes? If you make them, what do you use?

I'm working on making a cost sheet for my sister and want to give her various options.

I've tried several times to make my own inserts. I've used terry cloth, flannel, microfiber, hemp fleece, hemp jersey, and hemp terry. And I really like an chinese or indian prefold the best.

Buying inserts used would definately be cheaper, I would think. You can get joybunz for as low as $2ppd, cottonbabies inserts for $1ppd...I doubt I could make one for that price. I like my microfiber towels from Costco, though.
