1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

Zolowear cotton ring sling. From newborn to toddler.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

Zolowear! It stays put on my shoulder, is soft and machine washable, I love the zipper pocket and I can nurse very easily in it.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

4, KK Fleece Pouch, KK Cotton Pouch, Taylor Made Solerveil water sling, and a KK lightly padded ring sling.

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
NoJo, not enough adjustablity and it ripped after 6 months of use.
Maya Wrap, didn't like the shoulder because it would ride up on my neck, and the version I had didn't have a pocket.

Blessings,
N~

1. ABCs of several makers. One dd nearly 9 months.
(babyfaries pak-pack, sachi, and doodlebug carrier)
2. an ABC- mei tai type.

3. Also have a maya, and a hotsling, and a snuggli- infant sling. And a frame backpack.

4. Never really got the maya to work. Only used the snuggl-infant once or twide, too hard to position right. The Maya always hurts my back and shoulder. Heavy baby- works much better spread on both shoulders.

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

I use my two mei tais equally as often with my 5 month old.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

It would be a mei tai. Probably my Sachi.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

Apart from the Sachi, we also have a FreeHand mei tai and a Patapum that we use regularly. DH liked using the Baby Bjorn when the babe was younger.

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
I never liked the Bjorn because it was uncomfortable and dd never liked our KKACP.

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?
Under about 11 months: NoJo sling
Over about 11 months: Kozy. Ds is currently 14 1/2 months old and I primarily use my Kozy so I can put him on my back. At about 11 months, he was able to climb up on my back, piggyback-style. Before that I had too hard a time getting him on my back by myself.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
I guess my Kozy because it leaves my hands free, however, ideally I'd love to be able use one carrier as a sling and a back carrier (haven't found one yet that can do both comfortably).

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?
These are the only 2 I use. Dh liked the Snuggli when ds was a newborn.

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
I was always afraid ds was going to suffocate in the Snuggli. I also tried a pouchstyle sling from One Step Ahead, that I hated. Ds never seemed comfortable in it.

Thanks to all already! Keep 'em coming!

I wanted to say THANK YOU to all who already participated- your responses are very helpful to me. When you are a die hard sling addict (I think all who are here qualify- it isn't HOW MANY slings you have necessarily, although many of you have quite a lot myself included- but how much you use them! Note to all of you with a DP that has threatened to have you institutionalized if you buy ANOTHER sling- start teaching baby wearing classes...'I had to get this one hon, I need it for a demo')

My purpose is to find what other people like, what they don't like and their own reasons for that. Age of the child being slung is a huge factor in which sling I recommend to someone. If you are reading the posts- it's easy to see that different slings work for different people but there are a lot of LOVE repeats. Just because I LOVE my HAB and wraps (stretchy for babies, woven for toddlers)but primarily use a homemade ring sling for my 20 month old just for sheer in/out ease doesn't mean that's what will work for someone else.

Very helpful stuff- keep it coming!

My name is Traci and I am a sling addict. And it's OK.

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

Kozy Carrier or Sachi MT (whichever one matches ) for my 9 month old and 2 yr old (often both at the same time) .

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

A MT of some sort. It is versatile and easy enough to use that dh can do it.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use? Just got a Moby and a MamaKangaroo wrap in the mail today - love them. They just may displace the MT's on my fav list. Also have a homemade woven wrap (too big), a homemade crocheted pouch, and am ordering a fleece/stretch cotton pouch from Annaslings.

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why? The Nojo sling (too big, bulky and hard to adjust), the Infantino Eurorider (okay, but only for a small baby, also had to be readjusted for dh and I, the Evenflo Trail Tech (nice, but bulky and too tall for short old me).

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for? Over the Shoulder Baby Holder(sling) for my 18 mo

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why? My sling because I've used it since dd was a newborn and she stilll likes to ride in it at 18 mo

3. How many other carriers do you have and use? 2, Maya Wrap and a Graco backpack carrier

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why? NoJo, sling, did not adjust to fit baby as well as other slings do

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

Moby wrap for a 5 month old

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

My moby wrap because it can go from birth to 35lbs and there are so many different ways to wrap it, it is long enough for any wrap carry.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

2: a sungli and an infantino baby carrier

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why

I don't like the snugli, it is too tight to get dd in and out of it easily, especially when she's wearing a cloth diaper (which is 99% of the time).

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

I guess I use my Kozy the most out of the house since we walk almost everywhere and it can hold the 3 year old in a pinch. Around the house, I use the kkafp and the ancient otsbh. Babylady is 8 months old.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
For a newborn, I'd choose a pouch, but I'd choose a Mei Tai or wrap for a bigger baby.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use? A gypsy mama water wrap, an ergo, a moby wrap, a placid baby mei tai, a mexican rebozo

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why? I had a Kelty Kangaroo which I hated because it killed my shoulders and balanced baby on her crotch. And, my torso is too short for frame packs.

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?
**Usually a Hotsling for my 3.5 month old son

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
** Hotsling b/c it is so multi-functional and I love the fabric

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?
** 2 Hotslings, 1 homesmade ring sling and a handful of homemade puches and 1 Oopa silk on the way and I'm considering a Mei tai

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
**I've not really tried one that I didn't like so far (except for a ring sling that I made following the Maya pattern)

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?
My DS is 4 months old and right now I would say we use wraps and ring slings the most.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
Woven wrap (Storch or Didy) - it's the most versatile and comfortable.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?
All sorts (and WAY too many of them!) - pouches, ring slings, wraps, mei tais....I *try* to use them all

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
I did not like the Bjorn (bad for baby and uncomfortable for mom), the Maya (hated the shoulder and the style), New Native Pouch (I do not like non-stretchy pouches and the sizing on the NN is way too big) and Pouch-style ring sling (not as versatile as regular ring sling).

Hard questions...

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

I use my fleece Hotsling the most. ds2 is 6mths. I also carry 3.5yr old dd in hip carry with it.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

I don't know......too hard!

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

I have a fleece hot sling, a KKAFP, a native carrier, a wise woman ring sling, a KK mesh shower sling, and a very best wrap. Oh and a fisher price carrier

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?

I like them all but am still learning how to properly use the ring sling and wrap. They are not as easy as my pouches....but are more versitle....once I figure them out.

Hope that helps!!!

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

Mei tai... six months. (I have two)

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

Mei tai. Comfy, cute, secure, and I can nurse in it.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

Moby... I use it for serious walks
Batik ring sling... quick in and out around the house
Twill ring sling... more comfy shoulder than my batik one but the fabric is too stiff so I never use it.
Solarveil ring sling... just got it and plan to use it at the beach

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?

Infantino... I heard that spine thing
Twill ring sling... see above

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

MNM Pea in a Pod Pouch. My son is 15 mos. I keep it in the car & use it when we are out & about.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

??? Not sure, since I did not use a pouch when my son was an infant.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

Sutemi -- for walks & hikes
Home made pouch for around the house
Kelty backpack for long hikes
Used Baby Bjorn until he was about 5 mos. and then went in search for something more comfortable!!!
Ergo -- DH uses it & likes it
Just got a Mei Tai & haven't tried it yet

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?

Hotslings was very uncomfortable & my son leaned too much with it. The Ergo was fine when he was smaller but began to hurt my neck when he hit about 20 lbs.

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?
Unpadded ring sling for 9 month old 23lb dd. i use hip/tummytotummy/and back carry for short walks, houshold stuff, errands, and fussy times
2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
ring sling because of versatility and ease of use
3. How many other carriers do you have and use?
hotslings strech pouch and a pool pouch, meitai, frankenkozy, didy, meihip, tai one on
4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
It seems like each carrier has its use but I haven't loved narrow strap mei tais because they tend to give me pressure points when wearing them.

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?

Right now I'm primarily using a Maya Adjustable Pouch. DD is 8 months old.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?

The pouch. It's non-bulky, so simple to pop DD in and out quickly, and it's very versatile in how I can carry her.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

I have a Koala Kids Mai Tei style carrier, which is great for longer walks and when I need to be truly hands-free, but is a bit lacking in the quick-in-and-out department. I also have a Sling-Ezee, which is a padded ring sling. I like it, but the padding is very bulky. It was most useful when DD was small, to do a snuggle hold, because the shoulder pad makes a pillow to keep everything snug, and because it's shallower than the pouch, so again it's nice and snug and she wasn't lost in it. I also have a Kelty backpack, but it's mostly DH that uses that. I had another ring sling, a hand-made padded ring sling, but then I lost 60 lbs. and it didn't fit anymore, so I gave it away.

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?

I am still using all of the carriers I've tried, except for the ring sling that I only gave up because it didn't fit anymore. I haven't tried the front-pack carriers like Snuglis, but I don't like the way the babies' legs dangle-- that doesn't look comfortable or healthy.

I use a ring sling for Trystan - I started when he was a peanut (just a few weeks old) and sometimes use it even now, when we are standing somewhere for long periods of time. If we are going somewhere we will be walking a longer route, like for a hike, I use a Mai Tei back carrier. I got that a few months ago.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
Hmmm... I'd have to choose my ring sling. It is just easier to get him in and out of. The Mai Tei is fabulous, but once he's in it, it is a pain to get him out of it unless we are somewhere I can sit down and let him out - it's just more of a hassle to get in and out of. The ring sling is easy in and easy out. However, the Mai Tei is more comfortable to wear him in now that he is over 30 lbs.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?
I have the two I mentioned and I also have a solarveil - we only use the in the pool, though. Tried it in the shower and he hated it... *sigh*

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
Not real crazy about the front carriers - the ones made by Evenflo, etc... they are okay, but nursing is difficult in them and they don't fit for long and the baby's legs seem spread too far apart - it just seems unnatural.

Thanks in advance!
Traci
No problem! Glad to help!

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?
Unpadded ring sling, my 8-month-old ds

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
ellaroo for comfort and versatility

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?

2

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?

I have liked all that I've tried, but my least favorite was the Baby Bjorn because it wasn't versatile enough for the price.

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for?
-I have an 8 month old son. Currently I use one of my Kozys for longer trips and a non padded, flannel ring sling for short trips. I always use my Didymos around the house. I'd say I use them all about an equal ammount of time

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why?
-this is too hard of a question! If forced to choose I'd have to go with my flannel ring sling.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use?
-2 Kozys
-Sachi Mei tai
-4 ring slings (diffrent ammounts of padding, and shoulder styles)
-Gauze wrap
-Didymos
-2 pouches
-Baby Bjorn
-Moby

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why?
-I hate the Bjorn/Snugli type of carriers, uncomfortable for both me and baby.
-I tried the Mei Hip, but it just didnt work out for us
-I also can't seem to get DS comfortable in a pouch

1. What carrier do you primarily use and what age of child(ren) are you using it for? We generally use our Kozy, and she's 15 months.

2. If you could only have ONE carrier- what would it be and why? The Kozy, without a doubt! It's super comfy and easy to use, my daughter has loved it since she was 3 months old.

3. How many other carriers do you have and use? I only have the Kozy and a Hotsling.

4. What carriers have you tried that you do not like and why? When she was a newborn we had a Snugli : and it just wasn't comfortable for DD or me.
