"What's your name?"

When did your dc answer this question?

When people ask my son what his name is, he gives some strange answers! At first he would excitedly repeat "Name!" Last night, i decided to try again. I said, "Honey, if someone asks you your name, what do you say?"

"Letter A!"

(Yes, his name does start with A. He says the word "letter" just barely intelligibly.)

Now I know he's doing it more because it made me laugh. I just want to know when it's usual for a child to say "My name is Inigo Montoya" or whatever.

DD (19 months) usually responds to the question "what is your name?" by saying Maddie. Every once in awhile she will say Maddie girl almost cave woman like :LOL .

This was one of the first words she was able to say around 13-15months-but she says it like "lallie" (Her name is Halle) it is so cute. But as far as being able to say "my name is..." not yet-she'll be 2 in August.

Emma Kate is 19 months, and she is just now starting to be reliable with this question. If you ask her her name, or say "who are you?" she will say "Umma." (pause, pause, pause) "Dit."

A couple of months or so ago, she started referring to herself as "Dit." Then for a while it was "Umma." Now we have "Umma... Dit" much to Mama's happiness.

We work on names a lot, though. At the dinner table she frequently goes around the table naming everyone... Dada, Puh (Papa), Mama, and Dan (Grand, short for Grandmother). And then we ask her who she is.

Ha! The Princess Bride quote made me giggle. Your DS's comment did, too.

My DS (24 mos.) loves to give silly answers, too. If he farts, and I prompt, "What do you say when you toot?" he'll retort, "Daddy!" with a big grin on his face.

In answer to your question: DS usually answers his first name correctly when someone asks, "What's your name?" or "Who are you?" When asked what his last name is, he often shouts his middle name. He can say his last name when we model it for him, but he has a hard time remembering it. (It's long, Polish, and hyphenated. Poor kid.)

She will give her whole name which confuses people. But if she ever gets lost hopefully it will help her.

Gabriel (4), when asked his name says, "Trevor the worker man" or "Bob". NO idea where that came from!

My 27 month dd just had her 2 yr well child visit (a little late), and the nurse asked whether she could say what her name was, so I asked her, "What's your name?" and she said, "Forgot." I thought at the time that the unfamiliar situation and the stranger had her a little rattled, but then later I realized we probably hadn't ever asked her that question much. She knows perfectly well that she's Lindy, but she might not have realized that "Lindy" was the right answer to "What's your name?"

After that, we talked about names a little, and a day or two later when I asked her, "What's your name?" she surprised me by saying, "Linden [Lastname.] But I'm pretty sure she wouldn't do that consistently at this point.

I can't remember exactly when but Haley has been saying "Hay-yee" for a while now (she is 2.5 now and I can remember her clearly saying "Hay-yee" @ 19 months so it's been at least a year) when asked what her name is. If you say "Haley what?" she'll say "Hay-yee Anne"

My son started introducing himself ("I Max!" ) or telling people his name around 22 mos.

Now if i say something like "You're my sugarpie" he'll say, "No, I Max!!!" LOL

My 27 month old dd says, "I'm Kramrin." (Her name is Kamrin) Sometimes she will say Kami.
She just recently got into the habit of asking everyone their names. When she asks my name, I usually say my first name, and then we go through everyone else's first name. I think its so cute. I guess she is so used to everyone asking her her name that she thought she would try that role on for size...

DS (2 yrs. 4 months) will respond wehn someone asks him his name. He usually says Aaron, sometimes Aaron (lastname) but if he is unsure of the person asking him, he will tell them that his name is "Joe Blue's Clues." That is his "alias."

My DD is 15 months. We just recently started asking her this. Sometimes she says her real name, but more often it's "Teetee!!" accompanied by a HUGE devilish grin. Have no idea where this comes from, since her name sounds nothing like Teetee. My DH suggested that she thinks her name is "Sweetie". :LOL

My ds is 2 years 4 months and is a bit of a shy guy. He knows perfectly well that his name is Desmond (or De'ond, as he says it) and often goes through everyone elses names, too..."Mama Ma'ie", "Dada De'ek", "Papa Joe", "Oma Kathy", etc. When people ask him his name his reaction tends to be to turn away and lick me. Same goes to other questions and attention that strangers give him. "What pretty blue eyes you have!" turn and lick, etc. Tell me I'm not the only one! Okay, the licking might be a bit off the wall, but I really don't expect him to answer.
