Who has made newborn/small mamabird fitteds....

I am going to make some newborn mamabird fitted diapers for sil baby due in Sept. I am using up material that I have just laying around. Do you think these two combos will be absorbant enough?
2 body layers of 10 oz knit terry, 3 soaker layers of sherpa

2 body layers of cotton velour and 3 soaker layers of sherpa

Do you think that I should add a hidden body layer of interlock or jersey?

Also, I would love to hear how long your baby fit in the newborn size. Did it really fit until 12lbs or longer.

I wish I could help, but I'm wondering the same thing myself. I hope you get some good responses

Well, I just made two even without any responses. I figure if it is not absorbant enough, then I will just add a doubler. They came out looking VERY cute. I will post pictures after a finish a few more.

I used the Mama bird pattern for my newborn diapers--I made the tabs a bit taller (thereby making the diaper as a whole about an inch longer) and they still fit my 11 lb, 11 oz baby girl, although i noticed today that i will have to soon add tab extensions, as her waist is about to get too big around. I also made a few with the original Mama bird length, but just a bit wider--the tabs are still plenty long to go around her, but they're a little shallow in the rise (starting to give her plumber's butt).
