I feel like a nut... I refurbished a FCB

I found a great deal for a fcb fitted on the tp, because the elastic was shot in the legs and front. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try one out. Well, I got it and felt so bad for the poor thing, I had to fix it .

Needless to say, I could have mad about four diapers in the time it took me to fix this one! I had to undo most of the serging to fix the elastic, so I decided to just take it all out and make it a pretty color . So, I had to put new snaps on too.

It is only part fcb now, but I still feel a little bit hyena (I don't want to get blasted or anything, so don't worry, I would never try to sell it as a real fcb.)

Just happy to have one, and it's now so pretty, I just wanted to share. My first fcb, back from the "grave".

Btw, it fits my 16 pound chubby chub. I thought size two was 20 +?

Great job!

I have 3 (1 is an AIO) with elastics destroyed by a washer. I have kept them thinking I would have time to practice my sewing skill but never did. So if you feel like refurbishing more, you can have them for a nominal price :LOL

I guess the elastic thing is a hard one to get away from. Hmmm, I'd like to try an aio. I make my dipes, but like to try out other's too. Especially since I caught that darn hyena bug, from hanging out here too much (lurking mostly!). There seems to be no cure, except the fact that I'm broke :LOL . So I just look, and buy broken diapers, I guess! Oh, except for the elbee, but that was different .

Wow, that's so cool! I'd be scared to death to take a diaper apart. I suppose if it was otherwise shot, there's nothing to lose.

Great job, mama!

Awesome! I had one dipe (non-hyena) with bad elastic and gave it to another sewing mama. So good for those dipes to still get some good use!

Wow, good job. YOu know the only dipes I've ever had where the elastic wore out were FCB's.

Please tell me that while you had it all undone you traced off a pattern so you can make yourself more from that perfectly fitting pattern (and can I have a copy, lol) I'm too scared to destroy my one and only remaining to trace off a pattern to make more - the others wore out before I'd started sewing.

you are one clever mama! that is beautiful!

What kind of elastic did you find inside the FCB? I've read debates about what kind of elastic is most durable, but I haven't seen anything definitive.

Good job btw.

Interresting that the elastic wears out so much. Maybe because they are all so well loved? Nope, I didn't trace the pattern. If I was just sewing diapers for fun, I would have, but I may eventually sell them. I have my own patterns (that I have developed ..over and over again ), and didn't want to get any ideas, even on accident.

It is very interresting to see how they are made though! Sometimes I doubt myself, thinking that these hyena diapers are so out of the world. Like I could never do that, so it's nice to see that they are just diapers

I was really curious about the type of elastic too! It is the regular white elastic (couldn't tell you what kind of course). Still not sure which is better though. I have seen the clear stuff break (even the better quality that is suppose to be good for diapers).

Thanks for all your comments. I finally posted something that people responded to! Plus I'm getting some more dipes to "refurbish". Hate to see such lovely fabric go to waste!

That is just too cool about fixing up old diapers. I have a whole pile of those laying around waiting for new life (not fcbs though-i wish!) its such a great way to keep re-using things! i love it! plus it looks so beautiful! did you just pop the snaps off with your snap press? it didn't damage the fabric at all? its so purrty...

I found that wire cutters : work for removing the snaps. It, amazingly, doesn't damage the fabric. I've had to do it on wool, and haven't had any problems yet........ (That's what happens when I try to make things while my little dd is awake, sometimes I put a snap on wrong . They are tapered, so you can just slide them under the snap and pop it off. My dh's idea, and I thought he was crazy! Had to eat some crow on that one :LOL

it's adorable!

I love the rainbow stitching

Another good way to pop off snaps is to use an awl and hammer and hammer out the center of the snap...the snap just falls apart and then you can put another one on

Love that re-furbished diaper...it looks wonderful!
