So...let's say I wanted to make flats out of old receiving blankets...what is the best size for a toddler? do I make them 1 or 2 layers thick? and do I have to serge the edges?
TIA!

ive never made flats but heres my 2 cents
flannel isnt very absorbant so im thinking unless your little one is a very light wetter 2 would work best. And id defintly serge the ends so 1 the dont fray and 2 they are together

Poor flannel gets such a bad rap, it's too bad - it is one of my favorite fabrics - and it'd be super absorbent in a flat.

The flats I have are 36" x 36" and they are great for toddlers, more absorbent than prefolds I have!

Here's how I fold them: www.diapershop.com/howto.htm

I'd make them just one layer, two layers would get pretty thick. Def. serge the edges or fold them under and hem them with a regular machine

What size for infant flats?

Usually the flats I've seen are somewhere between 27 x 27 and 30 x 30.

I hadn't thought about making flats! That's a great idea!
