(Good idea, Bearsmama!)
Yesterday I had a really tough morning. The day before that, too. I said things I wish I hadn't said, I didn't handle the tough situations in a way that did anyone any good. It was horrible. But although I regret how I handled things (the same old tough situation I should be handling better by now), everything got better once I realized what I was doing, patched things up with my daughter, and went about the rest of the day. I did better handling that situation today, and plan to handle it better tomorrow too.
So to all you mamas having a tough day and beating yourselves up a bit, struggling over how to forgive yourselves and move on, I offer you these words that help me:
Being a parent is a huge challenge. It's not easy. Every single one of us struggles at some point-I struggle every single day. The best thing I can do as a parent is trust that I will find my way by listening to my kids and to myself and to the ghosts from my childhood that lurk inside of me. When I can stop and listen-especially during the difficult times, I can see where I am, and from there I can find my way for at least a little while. One step at a time, one moment at a time. What more can a person do?
I hope moms who are having a hard day will come and vent, and I hope some moms will offer support and some more ideas for coping with those tough days.

Quote:
| "As soon as we start attending, we are no longer lost. We are simply where we are. Where we actually are is a good place to begin, both physically, when we've lost our bearings, and metaphorically, when it feels as if we no longer know what we are doing as parents....Perhaps what is most important is our willingness to be where we actually are and dwell here fully, in darkness or in light, without having to go anywhere else. Only then may we know where to place our foot when it comes time to move." -Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn |
