Don't know whether to cry or laugh....

We bought some castor oil this last night so I could use it this weekend if things didn't quit messing with me and get going on their own. So I tried some last night to see what all the hullabaloo was about. Very disturbing but I figured it smelled and tasted like crayons, I could do this. The bottle was sitting on the counter this morning (I took the taste test last night before bed so the lid wasn't on all the way) next to some food I had made. I went downstairs to get something and by the time I came up the dog had jumped onto the counter, spilling the castor oil into my food, and DEVOURED the food. He ate about three ounces (probably more seeing as I didn't use a ton last night) of castor oil!!!!!! I don't know whether to cry because I don't want to go buy another bottle and what not or laugh because he has no idea what he's in for (mean I know but come on!!!!! Who would have known our dog likes crayon flavoring!). He had been doing so good about not jumping up onto the counter (he's a Harlequin Dane so when he jumps up he's tall). I am so upset at him! I don't want it to make him sick and him get dehydrated.......I know what's going to happen so we are watching him very closely but that was my only bottle!!!!!!!! lol Maybe it just wasn't meant to be but man!!!! That was my only bottle! :LOL

Well if you know what he's in for, then it's a good thing, IMO. You don't want to try castor oil. It's nasty, it makes you sick. Sorry about your dog. Do keep an eye on him. You may really wanna put him outside as well so you don't get poop all over the place...

We had him outside for almost all day but it's been raining and he was barking a the neighbors so we had to bring him in. I agree....it's tastes very gross but I was willing. Dumb dog!

Poor dog, although I would think it would have hit him sooner if it was going to bother him.

IMHO the taste of the castor oil was not a problem it was the effects. Ugh! I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy! I'm figuring if it didn't put me into labor at 42 weeks last time it isn't going to do it this time either, I ain't doing that again no matter what.

I've decided based on how much time has gone by and how much he ate he should be good to go. After all it was about three ounces. He should have been in misery if it was going to do anything to him. Either he has a stomach of steel or he got enough water and dog food in his system to help him out. :

Oh man!!! You have me laughing my butt off!!!! Your poor dog! That is something our dog would TOTALLY do!! (Make mental note, keep castor oil off the counter!)
Well, I am glad your dog is feeling better. I agree it was meant to be & you were not meant to take it!

Thanks for the laugh! s

: It's not the taste, it's the texture and what it does to you. Not a way to start labor, IMO.

:LOL That is SOOOOOO funny. I can't believe that it didn't do anything to the dog, though. Your story is giving me castor oil flash backs! It's not a fun way to go but if someone (like your midwife or her backup OB) is threatening pitocin it's better than that. I guess you can try it if you get really desperate... I made a castor oil milk shake with it and you know what? I will never ever eat Chunky Monkey again :P
