pesticides and living near corn fields?

I was hoping someone might have some insight to add- we would like to move to the country but in our area of canada, most country properties are bordered by corn fields. After searching the internet, have found the "of course it's safe" answer from farm organizations and "not in a million years" from the other end of the spectrum. Does anyone have any insights? I am told by the local farming community that in our area, a general rule of thumb is roundup applied in the spring right into the soil at seeding time and that's generally it for pesticide use.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

I grew up on a farm & my grandfather used pesticides more than once a year. In the spring yes as you are describing, but after the crop was planted an airplane would come & spray.

My grandfather died at 62 of cancer. And I had unexplained infertility & possibly some immune system issues.
If I could avoid it I would.

I've wondered about this too. Recently we've been next to a corn field... I don't know what they spray it with, but I've been concerned...

I'd probably look and try to find somewhere not bordered with a corn field personally. But then again, depending on where you live now, if it's next to a power plant or something, the corn field might be a better choice. It's all in perspective.

Most corn is sprayed with atrazine.

Do a google on that. Worse than a horror film

The arial spraying is very bad. I would not live near corn fields.

edited to not be such a downer (have been exposed to many banned pesticides on the farm - what is called safe one year is pulled from the market the next- safe is not safe)

I remember growing up seeing the planes, smelling the air.

I wish my parents would of known & moved. It could of changed my life for sure, possibly my brothers too. We lived on my grandparents farm,there was 2 houses & they had given them the house that was pretty run down that my parents fixed up.

And my grandmother had a garden that we are from all the time, but she planted it in the corn field
