MIL and circ

MIL was here last weekend and found out that ds is intact. she was shocked that we would do taht. she said "oh well it is cleaner to be circ'd" I told her that wasnt true and then I said this...." Actually do you know one of the reasons that circ became normal...in the victorian era they did it so men wouldnt masterbate." LOL i got the satisfaction of seeing her eyes pop out of her head and her mouth drop open! In her world masterbation and sex do not exist. hehe I am evil.

Anyway after she recovers she goes on to say..."well we circ'd dh and he turned out okay." Oh if she only knew. dh is pissed (now that he is educated on the issue) that he was violated that way. He wants to ask her what she was thinking.

thought I would share that.

I would have said "Really, you know dh is really upset you did that" and see what she thinks about it then. I said that to my mil and it did upset her. Not by me saying that but about what she did. I don't think she'd ever thought she did anything wrong until I told her dh was upset about it. It kind of changes things when the person stuck with mutilated genitals expresses their unhappiness about what was done to them. I went on to mention how they didn't even use anesthesia when they did it and didn't that bother her. I think it really got her thinking about how horrible it is at least.

DH still plans on telling her he is upset. (I feel it is his place not mine to tell her hence the reason I didnt say anything). It made me upset at one point in the conversation when I was saying we shocked to find out how they did it because she flippantly said "oh you mean how they tie them down?"
Oh yeah thats what I mean!! She didnt seem to think this was a big deal at all.

But then again she is about as unattached to herself and family as possible so it probably didnt matter to her at all.
