Cinnamon reaction?

lately i've noticed when i use my cinnamint flavored tom of maine toothpaste that my mouth gets a little red around my lips. and when dd eats cinnamon amaranth cereal, she gets very red around her mouth.

is this normal? allergic? is it a big deal?

Cinnamon bark can be irritating to skin .. especially cinnamon oils like Tom's uses.

I have known someone with this reaction to cinnamon, there was also swelling of the tongue...

My 3 year old gets a red reaction on his mouth when he has cinnamon, too. I had sprinkled it on his oatmeal, and he got little red marks where it touched his skin.

so should i avoid it? or is it no bid deal? dd loves that cereal!

We do. But that's up to you. There are other foods that ds is allergic to that we don't avoid, but so far he is not reacting to them. He has a huge list of allergies and we are trying to knock out the bigger ones as we go. But, we have cut out cinnamon because it scared me that he reacted around his mouth. Not sure if that helps.
