How's this? Please take a look

I wanted something simple for my sil's to read. If they want more info they can always ask for it.
I'm trying to cover all the reasons they might think they should circ and counter them simply and easily so that they will read it.

I made some changes per Fee's help.

1.Circumcision is not the norm anymore. Especially in the Northwest, about 30% are circumcised today and that number is going down every year.

2.The foreskin keeps the penis cleaner. When the boy is an infant it keeps the penis clean by protecting it from urine and feces. Some people point out that uncircumcised boys have more urinary tract infections, that’s true but that difference is less than 1% in infants and there is no difference beyond a year old.

3.Circumcision hurts. Although some doctors use medications to help numb during the surgery it doesn’t take away all the pain. One of the most sensitive parts of the penis is the glans (head) and frenulem (a bundle of nerves on the underside of the glans) which the numbing creams and medications don’t numb.
At birth the foreskin is firmly attached to protect the glans, its like a fingernail attached to a nail bed. When a circumcision is performed the foreskin is pulled away from the glans, the nerves at at the base of the glans are cut (these nerves are equivalent to the female clitoris), and then the foreskin is cut off. As an adult the foreskin makes up about half of the penial skin.

4.A foreskin makes sex better for the man and woman. The foreskin provides natural movement which makes lubricants unnecessary. It also provides more clitoral stimulation for the woman. In countries that don’t circumcise (the US, Israel, and Muslim countries are the only places that circumcise) impotence is nearly unheard of. A circumcised and intact penis look nearly the same when aroused.

5.There are risks to circumcision, including but not limited to hemorrhaging, damage to the remaining penis (scarring and deformities), infections, adhesions, and urinary retention.
The risks are higher than any potential benefits so no medical association in the world recommends circumcision

6.Its not necessary for Christians. Circumcision is a covenant that only applies to Jews, in the New Testament its stated several times that its not necessary for Christians.

7.Boys don’t have identity issues because their dad’s penis looks different. Most are simply impressed by the size and pubic hair. And afterall their noses and ears will likely look different and they will see those body parts a lot more often.

8.Circumcision has short and long term affects. Circumcision pain has been shown to affect baby’s ability to breastfeed and sleep. Men who were circumcised as adults show less pain tolerance than those who were left intact.

9.No special care required. As an infant just wipe it off like a finger during diaper changes and baths. When he’s old enough to wash himself he can simply wash his entire penis with water and soap as needed.

And I'd like a #10 just to round things out.

Change that to 'that's true, but it is less than 1% difference, and there is no difference at all in boys older than one year.'

this isn't quite right. I'd eliminate the sentence 'The most sensitive part of the penis is the glans (head) instead the foreskin and the numbing creams and medications don’t affect that part so its still very painful.'

Thanks fee.

I also added "A circumcised and intact penis look nearly the same when aroused." to #4

and

9. 9.No special care required. As an infant just wipe it off like a finger during diaper changes and baths. When he’s old enough to wash himself he can simply wash his entire penis with water and soap as needed.

It looks good! I'm not sure if you want to add this or not, but a friend of mine had her son circed at birth. They messed up and he now has to go for reconstruction surgery with a specialist. The specialist said that he does an average of 2 circ repairs a week, and he shares an office with 3 other specialists who do the same thing! That is alarming!

Goes to show you that it is a lucrative business all around

From the Dr/Hospital making the green DURING the procedure

To the BioChem compnanies buying the test skin and producing "Non animal tested products" to the masses and boosting their profits

To the Dr's who specialize in reconstructing the botched jobs.

I see Green..lots n lots of green

Then I see Red. Bright angry mean red...

10. If he wants to get circumcised as an adult, he can. It is a myth that it is more painful. In fact it is less painful because the foreskin no longer has to be ripped off the penis head, the anesthesia is much better, pain medications after the procedure are much better, and wound care is cleaner.

Other things to consider adding to #10
An adult is aware of the reason for the surgury and can understand what is happening. He can take care of his own pain care needs. As a bonus (most) adults are potty trained- and therefore the wound is cleaner.

I'm rushing out the door, sorry for the draft sentence.

PLEASE share your final version of this I LOVE IT so far. It woiuld be GREAT to attach to intactavism letters. Can we borrow????

Keep up the great work everyone!!!!!

You've done a great job!

For a number 10 (and this is the whole reason dh and I didn't circ our little guy)

10. It's not your penis so keep your hands off!

How about

10. As an infant he is particularly sensitive to pain, more so than at any other point in his life. Some people report that the baby looks very calm during the procedure but that is because they have gone into shock because of the intense pain.

I think this looks great overall but I agree with feebeeglee that the bolded part above needs to come out. In fact, the glans is the LEAST sensitive part of the penis and is about as sensitive as the heel of the foot. The foreskin is the most sensitive part of the penis. Cutting it away removes 10,000 - 20,000 specialized nerve endings and half the erogenous tissue of the penis. A foreskin makes sex better for the man because he's got all the nerve endings he's supposed to have.
