That's a good question. I give the college-aged sitter more responsibility, and she has more experience, including CPR training. Sometimes she's watching my son on campus and that is a a much bigger task than hanging out at home.

In general, I would pay more for experience, special training like CPR, and driving with my child in the car--regardless of age.

The only sitter I use is my next-door-neighbor and I pay her $10/hr. She is a former daycare worker and in-home daycare provider and has 3 kids of her own. Between their big dog, their bunny and pet rats, and all the kids and their friends running around, DD loves it at their house. Our home seems like a museum in comparison!

I'm not sure what the going rate is around here, but I think it's between $7-$10/hr. for 1 child.
