is there a dish soap alternative?

We use mostly homemade cleaners but I've never found a good homemade dish soap. Is there anything? I'd love to stop having to pay for salsuds because I am broke.

(I am talking dish soap for handwashing, not dish washers) THANKS

There's always good old baking soda, hot water and a stiff brush! Not glamorous but will get the job done. I find washing up right away makes for the easiest time of it. Things don't have a chance to harden and stick. I also use salt to scrub with at times. It's gentle enough for my cast iron but will get crud off really well.

Take care!

One more thing!
When I do use dish soap, I sometimes dilute it half and half with water. That way I have two bottles of the stuff with no noticable decrease of efficacy.

I do that too since my dh uses a lot of soap to wash 1 pan. It works just as well.

I do use hot water and baking soda to scrub pots and pans, but I never thought to use it for things like plates and silverware. it works ok? And how about on glassware? That was the main problem I had with the homemade dish soap recipe I used, it left glasses smudgy and dirty-looking.

Yeah, we dilute it alot! that DOES help.
