Wal-mart has asked several musicians to change the lyrics of their songs, and record special censored/watered down versions of their albums. Some who refuse are then not sold at Wal-Mart stores. So it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the shelf copy of Parenting mag has that photo removed or changed in some way.

Of course this diesn't seem to stop Wal-mart from selling explicitly violent toys and video games.

I don't have time right now to read all the replies, but I remember seeing your photos in the past, & I think they ar (& I thought they were at the time too) beautiful. Those are quite discreet as far as nursing photos go. I'll come back in a bit & get all the updates - I'm interested to see what the outcome was.

OMG this is the stuff of nightmares. I am always worried that the nude belly pics and breastfeeding pics I have on my own computer will be CPS/DCF fodder!

As for the photo policy, I can understand the desire to protect children, but protecting them from being breastfed? Give me a break! I was telling DH about this post and he said "Let me guess it was at Walmart right?" This was before I even got to the post saying that it was Walmart! Unbelievable.

OP- I hope you get a satisfactory answer, but I am afraid you might not. Where in KY? My mom lives just outside of Paducah and shops at that Walmart a lot (groan I know!). I am curious because I may just have her go in with pics of me nursing to get reprinted!

Blessings,
N~

CVS

Digital camera, good printer and tons of photo ink are calling my name. Any really awesome, non-expensive digi cams out there that can shoot in B & W?
What area is this?? How did you find out this info??
Anyone know if it also might apply to online printing sources like ofoto.com or snapfish.com, etc. ??

Ditto.

Beautiful BEAUTIFUL photos. I read your post to my DH & showed him the photos & he said, "I'm offended. I don't think there was enough nipple showing." :LOL

Holy cow, my experience with my local WalMart was totally different!

When DD was just a few weeks old (6-8 wks, maybe?) and I was very new at breastfeeding, I had to make a trip to WM. Of course, once we got in there, she wanted to feed (and I hadn't yet mastered the art of nursing in the sling). Let me say that I'm quite self-conscious about everything, and wasn't comfortable at ALL with NIP (not because of shame, but my general shyness, if that makes sense).

I started to try and nurse her in the sling while in the craft/sewing department. An associate came up to me and very kindly asked if I would be more comfortable at a bench. When I said "yes", she pushed my cart for me and took me to a bench in the layaway area. As I sat down and started trying to nurse (and by now visibly embarrassed by my own shyness....blushing, sweating, almost in tears) while trying to look casual. A different associate came up to me and quietly asked if I would feel more comfortable in a fitting room (not in a "HOW DARE YOU NURSE HERE?! kind of way.....but in a genuinely empathic way). I said "definitely" . She took my cart for me and took me to the fitting rooms, went to tell the attendant that I would be in the handicap fitting room for a while (it has a roomy bench), and wished me a wonderful day. When I came out, the attendant was all smiles, cooing over my baby, and wishing me a lovely day.

I was so impressed I called their corporate number. They were ALL so positive and supportive.....and I was so surprised!

So not all WalMarts are horrible.........I'm sorry some of them (like the OP's experience as well as the poster I quoted) are awful

I'm so sorry and appalled that you had this experience, especially in front of your son. Shame on that woman. Just wanted to mention that even if your state does not have specific laws protecting women's right to breastfeed, there is federal legislation which is effective in every state that most certainly protects your right to breastfeed anywhere in any way that you wish without falling under the indecent exposure laws. I can probably find the language on that, but not this late at night... anyway, I think I read about it on the LLL site a long time ago.

My understanding is that the federal law only applies on federal property: office buildings, museums, parks, etc.

The principle is sound though, and there are NO laws against breastfeeding anywhere.

This is the hazard of the breastfeeding laws. People think that if there isn't one that breastfeeding is somehow less legal in public. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The laws that have been passed to protect breastfeeding, especially in public, were put in place for two reasons: to encourage moms to breastfeed in the first place, and to protect us from idiots who can't tell the difference between feeding a baby and a lap dance---as in they would try to apply the indecency laws to babyfeeding.

Ok, I found the page on LLLI and here is what they say:

http://www.lalecheleague.org/Law/Bills4.html

It does state that the federal law only applies to all federal property but it also states that regardless of whether your state has specific breastfeeding legislation you have the right to bf anywhere, public or private. The legislation does not imply that without it you are not allowed to bf, it only provides extra protection to the mother and also hopes to change society's attitudes long term.

There's also a page on what to do if you've been told you shouldn't bf:

http://www.lalecheleague.org/Law/Bills5.html

Not sure if this helps the OP, but I'm looking forward to hearing an update

I agree with the pp who said involve management! The law clearly states breastfeeing in public is not indecent exposure! The law also (in Md anyway) that breastfeeding moms have the right to do so anywhere and it is unlawful to ask a mom to remove herself to feed her baby/child!
I loved those photo's. I wish my husband could take some of my son and I like those!

I keep thinking about how she threw things at you and threw them around the store. If I were her boss, I would want to know that. There is a possibility that the whole thing was filmed on a security camera. What if she becomes even more violent with a future customer? I understand you want to be polite, but that behavior is not ok with me...and she couldn't even control herself in front of a baby.

Have you seen this?
http://www.projectgotbreastmilk.com

You can get a whole calendar of "pornographic" bf photos, maybe some of you and your babe. Maybe this lady needs one as a gift!

Those are so beautiful (the above site)

I'm inspired, I'm going to take my big 25lb, 11 month old and nurse right in the middle of wal-mart. I'm in Fla and protected by law. I dare them to say anything!

I think I would have been tempted to whip it out right there. Probably wouldn;t have cause I don't have very big kahunas, but I really would have been tempted.

The pics are beautiful!!!
