Helen Hunt on Letterman

It was so cool! He asked how long she was going to breastfeed, and she sort of shrugged, and then he said something about after a year some people have a problem with it, and she laughed and said, well, *you* might have a problem with it, not me. She said she would keep nursing him until one day he looked at her and said, no thanks, I'm good!

yes, she was great--I have always liked her (though I was sad when it didn't work out with Hank Azaria). Even though Letterman said that thing about how after a year, people start to get uncomfortable, it was good to hear that his son was nursed for a year.

I think Letterman was trying to say that in his experience people have a problem with a one year old breastfeeding, which implies that Harry (now 1-1/2 yrs) at least breastfed for just over a year. Letterman was about to talk more about nursing beyond a year but was cut off by Hunt. I am glad BF (and toddler nursing especially) got some great publicity though.

It's so great, instead of "if they're old enough to ask for it, they're too old to nurse," that's she's letting people know, "if they're old enough to ask for it, they'll also let you know when they're ready to stop, so relax." Hearing great celebrity bfing p.r. really gives me hope that someday my grandkids will be as shocked to hear about widespread ffing as I was to hear about babies in my parents' generation being fed evaporated milk and Karo syrup.

Yea, Yea, Yea! I've always loved her, and I wanted to stay up and watch it, but I was too tired. Sorry I missed it.

The whole "how long are you going to nurse?" question just irritates the out of me. It comes from everybody.

I like her answer

I was surprised (esp. when I was expecting Bonnie Hunt - d'oh!), but that was cool. I ditto the sentiment about Hank Azaria. Anyone know the author she is with?

I knew there was a good reason I have always liked her She always seemed so "real" to me when I would see her on tv or in a movie. :

On the Letterman web site they mentioned her talking about her hypno-birth but didn't say anything about breastfeeding.

Wow, Hypnobirthing too? Now she just needs to advocate CD'ing...!! :LOL
