Is a small amt of mucus in stool normal?

I posted this on another board but I wanted to get as much input as I can. I will post it here too.

We are trialing apples (applesauce right now). Logan started it Tue. This morning he had a normal bm. Then about an hour later he went but there was a just a little bit in his diaper. But there was also mucus in it. There was not a ton of mucus, I would say a few strands and a tiny bit mixed in, but then again the bm was only a small amount too.

Do I take this as a reaction? Or is a small amt normal and ok? I don't want to miss a reaction but I don't want to over react either. I wish I had a non allergic kid to comare with.

Jordan had a small amt too a couple days ago but has had two normal bm's since then.

Any ideas? Do Non food allergic kids get mucus too? Last time this happened I called the nurse but she could not really give me an answer.

Thanks!

Oh I should add that he eats a lot of millet right now, like 1 1/2 cups or more a day. I don't think he is reacting to it but could that cause some minor mucus? I have read in some places that millet is not mucus forming and in other places that a large amt of any grain can be.

When he reacted to lamb he had mucus but it was a pool of mucus like the size of a quarter or so. And buckwheat caused them both to have large amounts so I knew that was a reaction. But not sure about this.

I can tell you that my little one often has mucous in his stool when he has a cold, so I know that's another culprit . . . I realize this doesn't entirely answer your Q, but it's something I've wondered too. If it were my ds, I think I'd not worry too much about it, but maybe only do apples in a rotation and then watch for more severe signs.

Sorry I can't help more!

Mucous in the stool is always a sign that that the bowels are trying to protect themselves. What from? That all depends. It could be a cold, it could be an allergy, or even some other rarer things. I'd pull the apples and see if it stops. If so, then leave them out. If not, try the millet and so on. Or if it's a cold, you'll probably see some other signs soon. Hope this helps!
