Okay... today my DD's preschool had a field trip to the Marine Corp Base very near our school. One of the dads, who just got back from a year in Iraq, wanted to show the kids around the helicopter he pilots. I was an official chaperone, among numerous others. After hanging out in the hanger for a while we went to a lovely new on-base playground to eat lunch and play.
When we arrived at the playground we headed to the lovely shady gazebo... 30 preschool kids and 7 or 8 adults. There were three young moms sitting there visiting when we swept in. One was nursing a babe that was maybe 3 months old. She looked startled for a moment... I think she had just latched on... and then simply returned to chatting with her friend. After getting all the kids settled I ended up sitting next to her on the bench. I briefly got her attention to ask if she minded me moving her car seat so I could sit. I complimented her on the sling in the car seat. She didn't seem to want to chat so I didn't engage her.... she just wanted to chat with her friends.
I was just so happy to see a mom nurse her baby to sleep and then hold her on her shoulder for about 40 minutes, with no self consciousness at all.
