That is just so unbelievably sad. I never should have opened the link. Then again maybe I can get the Medical facility to post the story with the picture on the breastfeeding board. Now I will see if they have that book at the library.

So so sad.

ITA Ginger-The water is often polluted and filled with bacteria or viruses. That picture made me cry when I first saw it.

That is beyond sad. How horrible. I was hoping it was faked as well. Being a twin myself that picture really gets to me.

I would really like to read "Milk, Money and Madness" but I don't think I could handle it. : Everything I've heard from it makes me want to cry.

IHaven't read all the responses...I saw that picture at least twelve? years ago in a health magazine. It's for real. The mom wanted to get the info out there so no other mom would suffer the loss of a child if she could help it.

I seem to remember (but I could be wrong) that the MIL told her she couldn't possibly make enough milk for two babies so she should only breastfeed the boy. And she regrets listening to her MIL, to put it mildly. In that culture girls are not important.

to the OP this photo and discussing it are important. It is also graphic and upsetting. Would you mind putting a warning in your thread title? Something like "warning graphic" or "warning death of a child"

God that is so awful. I'm not sure I could handle reading that book either.
