Thrush:(

Both my baby and I have this. What is the best way of treating this? I did already call her doctor, but I would prefer more natural remedies.

Also, we CD, is there anything extra I need to do with her diapers to prevent it from spreading?

ETA-She only has the thrush in her mouth, not on her diaper area.

Christine, I went throught this and didn't want the stuff that the pedi gave either. Here's how I got rid of it. I put us both on acidopholus (SP?) they sell little kid ones, the baby will need that. MY homeopath sold me a product called Aquaphase. I used that exactly as I was told and it worked. I also cut out as much dairy, wheat and sugar as I could. You have to be very careful about keeping your bras clean, I think you have to wash them in the hottest possible water. Maybe use breastpad and change them constantly.

Are you in pain? I remember a burning sensation that was NOT comforable at all. Here is my email address, sherrystroker@cox.net. Please don't hesitate to write to me if you want further help or need someone to listen. I have been there, and got through it just fine!

Oh, you are so sweet.

Yes, I do have that unpleasant burning sensation. It is getting less pleasant as the hours progress. LOL! That was the first thing I noticed. Then the rash appeared today. I have taken acidopholous before. How would I give it to her? She is almost six months old.

Christine, i posted this on sk but will add it here as well - kellymom has TONS of thrush info - http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/...resources.html

most say gentian violet works better than nystatin, and treat both of you guys. for the dipes and bras, i would say crank the water heater and wash on HOT, and maybe a few drops of tto to sanitize.

My dd was older but I had thrush on my nipples. She did not show signs of it but was at an age where she was eating many solids (she was well over a year) so it was maybe not as evident. We used gentian violet (got it for less than $2 at CVS drugstore) and it worked very well. I think we used vinegar in the rinse cycle of the laundry. The gentian violet does stain deep purple so wear old clothes/bras and I have heard that vaseline on babies lips will prevent it from staining there. Also, as SherryAnn said, thrush thrives on sugar so cutting back as much as possible is helpful. Good luck! I hope your thrush is gone soon!
