Allergy to snaps?

I just had an epiphany today that the eczema patches on DS's shoulders and back of neck may have been caused by an allergy to metal in the snaps on his clothes. I have read alot about nickle allergies, for example. DOes anyone know what those snaps are made of? Am I on to something here?

I'd bet my last nickle (:LOL) that's what it is. I have a mild nickle allergy and I can't have skin contact with various items like cheap earrings or certain scissors.

Hi there your post caught my eye. I think most snaps are nickle. My first DS was allerigic to them. He would get little red snap marks from them down his chest when he would wear snappy sleepers. I coated some of them with clear fingernail polish, but then I just got new sleepers with out snaps. I think you may have found out what is bothering him. Best of luck to you!~

wow! i thought my son was the only one who went thru this!! as a baby, he used to have these round, raised and red areas all up and down his tummy. i finally realized it was the snaps on his jammies/sleepers causing it.

the areas cleared up on their own. i used to put him in a cotton undershirt- between snaps and belly or get rid of the jammies/sleepers with snaps. to this day, he'll get a rash from the metal snap of pants and prefers basketball pants/shorts!

you're definitely on to something!

Awesome moms- thanks for the verification. We always wera onesies under our sleepers thankfully or this would be worse. I will have to be careful to avoid shirts with snaps on the side or back. Cool!
