Need some info on cat allergies please

Does anyone know about cat allergies? I know that supposedly one gender (of Cat) is better than the other as far as triggering allergies, however, I can't seem to find anything about it.

There is also supposed to be some homeopathic remedy that you can give cats that will help them be less of an allergen, but again, I can't find anything on it.

Any help you can give would be very much appreciated!

gender? no, I don't think that has a thing to do with it! It's the cat "dander" that is the allergin... not the cat itself. You can get a hairless cat...

I think even a hairless cat could trigger allergies since it would still shed skin cells.....and gender doesnt make a difference......now, I know there are some cats that I react stronger/faster too, and some I can be around for an hour or so...so it may be more a matter of individual cats.....but Im still allergic to them all lol

Actually.. male cats produce more of the allergy-causing-type dander than female cats do. BUT - neutered males tend to (but not always) produce less of the allergy causing dander than non-neutered males. I can't remember the name of the study, but if i remember right it also noted that dark-haired cats are more allergenic than light-haired ones.

right, but they all still have dander.....some may have less than others, but none are dander-free.

nak I think the prob is actually a protein in the saliva and if you bathe cat weekly it stops producing the protein. Dander and fur just carry the allergenic protein to your nose.
