So what was MDC like... - Page 11

I don't remember the pre-crash days.

I mean, I remember being here, and I remember all of these wonderful people, but I don't remember much of how it was different. Although, I do recall being shocked the first time someone got chastised for questioning someone who was supporting CIO.

Mostly I just remember it being such a relief to find this place after visiting a certain other parenting board (we'll call it "Infant-Midpoint" :LOL).

Strangely enough, this place is much bigger now but feels a lot more cliquish and exclusive than it did in the old days.

i do remember taking a roll call on 9-11 & shortly thereafter. there were few enough voices that when they were missing, it was noticed. i remember being really scared for the new york mamas....

Me too!

I was googling something the other day and found a pre-crash post I'd made...I'd even forgotten what my old username was.

That must have been awful. I have thought about that and wondered if we lost members or members' family...

another old timer here, though it was just a few months before the crash. Thank goddess that led me to my current home

I just had to pop in and say hi to Edgy!!!!! I just pulled out the blanket you made Gracie to use for the new babe, and was thinking how much I miss you.
I can't believe May is 4!!

Oh boy! this thread brings back a lots of memories...

I came pre-crash - mostly lurk and learned a lot then... And yep! MDC was different... I spent a lot of sleepless nights reading...

I miss the Manifestation threads too - I received a lot of support from the little group we were and still send positive energy to the group every time I do manifest in my everyday life

Seeing all these old names here is so good! And this emotional pregnant woman can't help it and here goes some tears :

I love MDC, still get a lot of support and validation here, but there will always be a special place in my heart for these old friends I've learned to love thru the years

JW is that really you????

"I think it was a lot more liberal then, but at the same time, a lot more accepting. I also think people thought a lot longer and harder before hitting submit button, and the thinking and debating skills were very well honed and extremely enjoyable back then."

You've nailed it exactly. Sarcasm and general rudeness seems quite acceptable now. Crap that would have been totally challenged in the early years flys freely. Ironically, I think the commitment to civility actually made for much more vigorous debate.

Nowadays I don't come here looking to connect with people. This is no longer a social internet home for me. It hasn't been since September of 1999. I come by occasionally looking for specific information, my pet topics of interest. I really like the frugal living and fitness forums and I like reading about other Ebayers and mamas in my geographical location.

Babydaze! Sparrow! Ando! And the wonder woman formerly known as Jaylind! I do miss you guys. I've found the relative anonymity of Mothering provides a nice little break as contemplate my current relationship with my real internet home.

thinking back....diapering just used to me not much of anything for traffic, then it boomed!
HeatherSanders wasn't "old school" per se, but she was a huge influence here and I miss her activity on the boards too!

OMG, Edgy, Mahala is 4????!!! I remember when she first came to you. Wow, time really has flown. Good to "see" you!
DITTO to that. oh my that does not even seem possible. Its really great to see you!! (moonstander in case you don't know) and so many other people too! YOu remember that big box of toys you gifted me? I actually just had to go through some of them and gifted them on to someone else. A few I had to keep though

I was fairly new before the crash and still getting my feet wet here, but I do owe so so so much to this place to opening my eyes to so many places. I have started lurking and posting again a wee tiny bit in the october preganncy board.

No one probably remembers me from way back when because I probably hold the record for most screens names used at MDC. I actually found this place within 2 or 3 days of being online at all and was soooo paranoid someone might know who I was back then. :
