Latest People magazine has anti-episiotomy and anti-c sec articles!

I couldn't believe it!
I bought this week's People : because of the Kenny Chesney/Renee Zellweger cover, okay. I love Kenny. :

Anyways, at the end of the mag is a two page article about the risks of episiotomies and it basically says that most people don't need them . One OB does say that "I don't think any woman should put handcuffs on her OB" as in, don't tell him he can't do one at all. But overall the article is very fair and balanced.

Then, they go so far as to have a box about C sections, talking about the rise in rates, and saying that it's not a good thing. Gives some of the (flimsy) reasons that many people are having sections. The end of that bit is kind of stupid though - it quotes a lady who's had two elective sections because "I was scared of all the things that could go wrong with delivery" and "A C-section seemed more controlled". :

Anyways, just thought I'd share

Yay!
Time magazine had a little article recently about episiotomies not necessarily being a good thing, as well.

I'd love to write some supportive letters to the editors on these-
but what to say exactly? My pregnant brain isn't feeling terribly creative or insightful...

She thought a c-section would be more controlled? Yeah, so have major surgery which is NOT natural and you have no idea how your body will react, have a permanent scar, possible longer recovery period, and then with all the press of VBAC and what not...........versus something that your body is designed to do? hmmmmmm..........A major c-section puts just as much stress on the body as delivery......anyway sorry for the vent I couldn't help it. But good for "People": it's a step in the right direction.

Yes, Natural Childbirth is so unpredictable and stressful. Usually the reason for doing a caesarean section is for "distress" - "obstetrical distress".

I would want REAL handcuffs put on an sOB if he assualted me with an episiotomy! It's as close to sexual battery as you get! Thank God for homebirth!
