Just got the latest issue of AlternativesVolume 10, #23 by Dr David Williams. In it there is a very interesting (IMO) article about glycine and our need of it. Our body can synthesize glycine but we can’t always make enough.
"Digestive complaints, gastrointestinal disease, food allergies, slows healing, liver problems, skin abnormalities, muscle pain/cramping, arthritis" can all be helped by glycine.
One of the richest sources of glycine is gelatin. The best way to get glycine is to make a broth out of bones.
Unfortunately, there are no vegetarian sources of gelatin.
He says there are many cartilage based products out there but most all of them aren’t quality or healthy for us so its just best for us to make broths out chicken, fish, beef, pork. One needs to add a couple of tablespoon per quart of water and one of the followingeith, ACV, wine vinegar or lemon juice. Let the bones soak 30 minutes before bring to a boil then simmering. 4-6 hours for fish, 6-8 for poultry, 12-18 hours for other bones he recommends.
Anyway, I thought it was interesting when he mentioned food allergies and so many on here seem to suffer from them. Just wanted to share in case it may be helpful to someone.
