does anyone else need a bigger car now? - Page 2

We weren't sure our Saturn Ion was going to keep working with the last one - #3, he was, but all 3 in car seats. We shopped long and hard with tape measure in hand to find booster seats that would wedge in on either side of his infant car seat, for our toddlers. Finally got that working, but then with this pregnancy we obviously had to upgrade. We would still be driving the Saturn for a while more, but dh got into an accident and it was totaled, so our plans got moved up a bit. I love our new Nissan Quest, even though I'm not wild about the environmental effects of a minivan. I assuage my conscience with us only having one vehicle...which is really all we can handle, since between the payments, insurance and gas it's about a thousand dollars a month!

We're also homeschooling and pregnant with #4, btw - and it's nice to see another crunchy christian around here

I'm a christian as well

Looks like dh is leaning towards the Honda Odyessy at this point. He even joked how he never thought he would have a mini-van, but he is anti SUV. We still have some time. We will probably buy used 2-3 years old.

We looked at the Honda too - I think I like the way that one looks best. The new Quest is pretty sweet, though I think we felt justified getting new because it comes with the extensive warranty, and we do a lot of whole-family traveling for dh's job. I imagine us having it for a looooooooooong time.

As far as small SUVs go...We had a Honda CRV rental when the van was in the repair shop (another reason why I love it; the man who rear-ended us was driving a full-sized pickup and did not drive it away from the scene like we did our van!). We both loathed it. I have never seen a vehicle so poorly laid-out. The button to turn on the cruise control was on the left side of the dash board very far down (underneath what I think was the button for the emergency flashers), which made it almost impossible to set the cruise while driving, which of course is what you have to do. The handle for the windshield wipers was also completely counterintuitive. There honestly isn't much room in the backseat either. While you could in theory fit 3 carseats in the back, you would have to have 2 of the seats scrunched up against the doors, which does not strike me as very safe. Also, the LATCH system hooks are up on the inside roof of the SUV behind the seats, and having the straps going up into my view while driving was rather disctracting.

However, I have noticed them to be rather popular, so perhaps my husband & I are just oddities.

We think we found our car...it's a Ford Freestyle...we were looking at minivans and the freestyle jumped out at us...it's smaller than the Ford Freestar(minivan)...it looks like a SUV but isn't and is cheaper on gas than a minivan! The payments are also about $200 less a month than the truck is now which is great too!

Anyway..I get to test drive it for all day tomorrow! The one I am driving is a yucky color but really nice otherwise...it's not the one we will be getting though

We now have a 2004 honda civic. With #4 on the way this would mean that when baby is born the family cant ride all together. But I love the mpg savings so I could not give up my honda for when its just me and the kids together. We bought a 1997 toyota landcruiser for our extra car. So I cant still save money on gas.
Only use the toyota when we go all together as a family.

Do the Landcruisers have seating for more than 5? I've only seen them with seating for five! Yay! One more car to add to the list of cars that are possibilities. I feel so boxed in with the minivan/SUV thing.

Well as long as everything works out we will be getting a 2005 Honda Odyssey with leather interior next week. It is very nice. Hope something doesn't fall through.

We bought a 2000 Plymoth Voyager this week. I feel so...i dunno...grown-up when i drive it, lol. I like it alot more than i thought i would though; the first time i filled up the tank, i was in shock (almost $40) but it seems to get about the same milege as the Subaru. It's super-comfy, and easy to drive.

Um, yup. We have an 8-seat van and will need a 9-seater. We are looking into one of those evil Yukons.
