B-i-n-g-o! - Page 2

I can't believe nobody mentioned (from the head nurse at a hospital 'birthing center' we toured):

Get the epidural - there's no need to be a martyr!

Needless to say, if we ever get get pregnant, we WON'T be going to THAT hospital!!

Here are some more for homebirth/NCB:

“Well, you say you don’t want drugs, but keep an open mind.”

“Well, I would do NCB, but I don’t like pain.” (And I do?)

“I had a ‘natural’ birth, too! Not a C-section!” (Yeah. Natural. When you can't bear to utter the word "vaginal." Or maybe it's just because we have such a high C-sec rate).

“If you don’t get an episiotomy, you’ll rip in half!”

“Get the epidural/The epidural is your friend!”

“Your doctor wouldn’t do anything unnecessary/to hurt you.”

“Doctors know best! Why would you question them?”

“What are you, in some kind of cult/some crazy hippie?”

“Aren’t you afraid of all the germs at home? Hospitals are sterile!”

“Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s safe!” (No kidding!)

“The technology exists for a reason.” (Yeah-- emergencies).

“Where did you get your medical degree?” (So I can't make any health decisions if I'm not a doctor?)

“Oh, you can find all kinds of B.S. on the Internet.” (But not in the OBs office?)

“If homebirth is so safe, how come it’s not legal everywhere?”

“The C-section rate is so high because of all the older moms/multiples/big babies nowadays.” (Yeah, maybe in part).

“The hospital has such a high C-section rate because we have so many high-risk patients.” (Riiiiiiight. In a wealthy suburb. Where the neighboring hospital says the same thing).

“Will your doctor let you do that?” :

“If obstetrics was that bad, don’t you think it would be common knowledge?”

“As soon as your water breaks, you need to go to the hospital, or the baby might die!”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t want to sacrifice my baby’s health for my comfort at home.” (I don't want to sacrifice my baby's health for my comfort with an epidural).

“I don’t go into labor on my own/am “too small” to give birth without a C-section.”
