Lookin' for land in all the wrong places....

(remember that song? well, I suppose it was love, but anyway...)

I'd love to get a list of links/resources for land buying!

I'm currently in Texas, but moving to Washington in 2.5 months... our plans are to become a stay at home family, live off the land and our creative skills. Sounds great, eh? Oh yes! But, the 3 places I know to look for land (that have pics, etc) just aren't cutting it! Everything that comes up is not so rural! I want RURAL! I mean 20-30 minutes drive to a lil' 2 store town!

Please share your secrets here!!
Here are mine: (for homes, land, or both)
www.realtor.com (obvious, not many rural listings, unless you're looking at $$$$$$$$)
www.unitedcountry.com (My favorite, but locations are sparce)
www.farmseller.com (another pretty good one, but not for the location I'm looking at... rural west of Olympia, WA)

Thanks so much for offering up your secrets!

Kynd mama- the Puget Sound area is one giant sprawl now. You have to go really far out to get rural- towards the mountains or out on the Penninsula you can find rural. Good luck!

I definately saw what you mean by the SeattleTacomaLaceyOlympia sprawl... but I felt like further west was a bit more rural... Shelton is getting huge now, but Elma, Matlock??

Now, who went to clickin' on those links??? There are some mighty sweet finds out there in the US of A!

I dream of some of that million dollar land... sigh... then I realize even if I had a million dollars, I wouldn't buy land that expensive!!! :LOL

We want to, somewhere down the line, move to a spot in the country that's "between" my parents and my hubby's parents (this would be a 3-4 hour drive for each of them) and I have looked at real estate online. The thing to start with is find out if the local papers where you want to be are online (or even subscribing to them) or if the local real estate companies are online, or even getting the companies to fax you the country listings. I have looked online like this and have found some nice spots. I also feel like we'll just have to take the "country backroads drive" next time we're going to visit one of his parents and maybe then we'd "find" what we're looking for.

I hope this helps, Be Blessed,
April

I am looking for land, too. I find it helpful to search the big realtors of the local area. I search for land on their sites b.c they usually have more listings than other websites. Who are some of the big realty companies in the Olympia area?

Here are two of my fave sites for land or natural homes all over the USA/world:

www.landandfarm.com Lots of option and pictures! You can search by state or by price or lot size.

Not really for land but for healthy homes...some of them have lots of land in rural areas. While I want to build, I would consider buying a solar home that was already built if everything else lined up with what I want.

Well, we're looking in Minnesota and what I've been doing is typing in "Minnesota newspapers" at google. I get this huge list and there's all these little papers from little towns. Not only do they list land for sale, but they list local realtors and their websites too. Also, a lot of teimes you find cheaper land in the paper because they're not the type of people who are paying web sites to publish their ad.

Just my 2 cents!

We used to live in Central WA...are you looking only at the west side? Not much in the way of rural on that side of the mountains, but once you go over the Cascades, there are miles and miles of total open land with nothing around you anywhere near...Some areas are still tree-d but much of that part of the state is high desert...not as pretty but definately open.
