hi

just wondering if anyone else is like me? i have an appointment with a fp to get a referral for a midwife. i think i know the birthcenter i want to go to but don't have a midwife yet? i'm starting to feel alone though with all these ppl with appointments! i don't see any rush quite yet except for the blood work which my fam. practitioner can do. i just moved here so it was hard for me to get a new dr and stuff. where i used to live they won't even see you until 13 weeks.

I'm right there with ya, though I did call a place yesterday. For various reasons I don't want to go back to my OB that delivered my last one (mostly because I don't want to deliver at that hospital again!) so I just picked one from my insurance provider list and called them yesterday. The nurse will do an intake appt on June 16th, but I won't see the OB until after July 1, and I'll be 13 weeks according to LMP (but only 11 according to when I think I conceived)

I'm ok with this though. I've done this 4 times before and I've never had any troubles until the third trimester when I develop high blood pressure.

My biggest concern, though, with this schedule, is since I'm likely going to be forced into a repeat c-section, and I think I'm 2 weeks less than my LMP will indicate, they won't have an early u/s which are supposedly more accurate for dating purposes.

There is a doula lady I know who will be a midwife in time for me to use her, and I would like to go with her. If not, there are a couple other midwives to call, but I don't know if I really want to go with a midwife or not.

So, no, I don't have anyone yet, and I'm not really in a rush to, either. I will basically refuse as many tests as I can, and my midwife has to be one who will go sit in the other room and be available if called on. Or rather, I would like her for labor support, which is why I'm thinking of just calling her to be a doula. But I would like her to be there to catch the baby or recommend we go to the hospital or something if need be.

Nope don't have one either! I'm starting to make apt.s for interviews - have one interview at the end of next month. Have met one MW briefly but dh hasn't yet and since we are doing a homebirth he feels it's important for him to feel confident as well. Interesting as he didn't care who the OB was for our 1st one! I kinda like that this is making him more involved in the process!

Called a Birth Center with a midwife within minutes of a postive test on May 5th.
They said they would call me back after all the month of Jauary has passed. i think I have a pretty good chance of getting in as I have used midwifes at a different Birth House for our last pregnancy and my edd is Jan 9th early in the month so they were not booked up yet.
By all rights I should have called my first birth house and it would be ano brainer to get in but as much as I loved my midwifes I ended up with a non-emergency transfer to their back-up hospital and had a horrible time ,when I finally got out of that place I swore I would never walk through their doors(the hospitals again) and it would be kind of hard to di if I used that Birth House again.
But now I am getting nervous thinking maybe I should have called them and put my name there as well just in case. I can't imagine having to use a Doctor for my pregnancy and birth on purpose..in fact I flat out refuse. The whole thing makes me sick and stressed and if they haven't called by Monday i am calling them. For every woman accepted there are 15 on a waiting list.

I have time though as first appts. aren't until 10-12 weeks.

Must go

I don't have an OB/MW yet either. Of course, that could be b/c I just found out I am pg! :LOL

I moved a few months ago and since the hospitals around here are not VBAC friendly, I am going to try to go to a Birth Center a couple of hours away from here. We're going to look at the place on Friday.

AmyR--where I am from you can't legally do a VBAC in a birth center. Home or Hospital is it--and the hospitals are slowly changing to no VBAC policies too.

I am currently in between two midwives. The first delivered my last baby and I was 100% satisfied (ecstatic actually) about how we worked together. However, I really want to birth at home and she doesn't do homebirths. The second is a homebirth midwife and my doula trainer. I love her too and think she would be great. No brainer, right? Well I am still convincing dh to do a homebirth. So no appt yet for me. I have done blood work with the fertility center (I used them before--although this was unassisted) and have my prog. supplement prescription through them but I turned down the early ultrasound (I think that was the first time that nurse heard the word "no" for that--she sounded really shocked) and told them that I don't plan on using their doctors for my prenatal care.

I just had a positive test on Weds. morning so I don't have my MW picked out yet exactly. I do have a hospital midwife whom I've already seen a few times for annual pap exams and with my last pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage. I have an appointment with her in mid-June and if all goes well, my partner and I will then start interviewing homebirth midwives. I think I know who we'll end up going with though, based on the research we did last time I was pg. There weren't that many options that including MWs with a lot of years of experience.

I'm going to call a midwife. I'm not going back to the gynaecologist that delivered my first, nor to the hospital. They say that they were committed to "natural" delivery, but guess what, I had induction, AROM, VI, monitoring and delivered laying on my back...
And I payied for privacy, but my bed was in front of the door of the delivery room, always left open, so anyone walking in the corridor could see my intimate parts. I think that I asked for the door to be closed a million of times, but nurses, midwife, gyn were constantly going in and out...
