Looking for Type of Birthing Stool

I used a birthing stool during my last labor. It was the regular moon shaped stool. I had to have my husband behind me on the bed to hold me up and I had nowhere to put my hands. I ended up putting bruises into one knee with one hand and bruises on my doulas hand with the other. (I never had to push, my body did it all, think riding a huge wave with nothing to hang onto) My husband also complained that since he was behind me he did not get to see anything.

Last week I was watching "A Birth Story" on tv and the woman was on a borthing stool. Only hers had a bar in front. She could hang onto the bar or put a pillow on it to put her face/head into. Looked wonderful to me. I mentioned this to my midwife and she was interested. She had never seen one like I described. She said she was going to do some looking. I told her she had until August to find one I did some searching on Google with no luck. Even trying to find a regular hospital birthing stool. Has anyone seen a birthing stool like this? Do they have another name I should be looking under? I would really be tempted to buy one for me to use and then donate it to the hospital afterwards.

was the woman in A Baby Story in the hospital? It sounds like the squat bars they put on the beds.

I have a birth stool that is wood: http://www.birthwithsol.com/birthstool1.html (this is sort of what it looks like, though mine is a bit smaller)

But, seriously, the best birth stool there is (and the least expensive!) is your own toilet.

She got on it and then they put the bar on. It looked like they attached it at the bottom. She gave birth while sitting on it.

I have my babies at the hospital and will probably end up with the same old birthing stool. I just need to find something to hang onto if my body does the same thing again.
