So..........another Baby Story thread..this time it's a good one!
On today's episode, there was a mama who openly said she was AP, col-slept, ext. This was her second child, and she had a ............waterbirth! It was beautiful! I was so excited to see this, b/c most of the stories lately have been c-sections- so this was a welcome refreshment- oh yeah women's bodies really do work! Just had to share.

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I've been watching a series called 'Baby Baby' on Discovery Health recently which is about mothers of multiples. It all takes place in the UK. The first episode had a woman who had her twins completely naturally. It was so great to see. In a later episode she was talking to the nurse about her concerns about how one baby was breastfeeding less, so she was clearly breastfeeding them both too. It was so nice to see.

I flipped past a show the other day about "alternative" births, and they showed three births, one a water birth, one a home birth, and (shock, surprise) none of them had any complications, they just had their babies. It was refreshing.
The water birth one was great, all the older siblings were in attendance, and the oldest daughter caught the baby.

When I first started watching a baby story years ago they were only California (LA Area) births in hospitals. I swear every one was induced and found themselves on their backs being yelled at to "push push push!". Having not had children at that point I asked my cousin, mom of 3, if that was normal. She said it had to be a CA thing. She had never experienced that and none of the women she knew in play groups etc had been induced even. Eventually baby story started filming in other parts of the country. As an example I noticed they have done quite a few in PA. If you compare the births in PA to the ones in CA you get big differences in how things are managed. In PA more likely to see a home birth or water birth, in CA you are more likely to see an induction in the hospital. Granted it is a generalization but enough that I noticed a real difference. Recently my step brother in laws wife had a baby in San Diego and experienced the whole induction, on your back "Push push push" scenario.

Seems like every time I watch a Baby Story, it is intervention-filled births in New Jersey hospitals! Lots of c-sections, lots of inductions, lots of epidurals...
Wish they would devote more time to natural birthing....
