I'm basing my feelings not only on last night's thread, but also my past experiences in the forum, and what I have seen.

I didnt see the thread last night but I dont think the forum needs to be split - like Tiff said at any given time there is a great variety of threads on the first page.

I think too some people might not see the point behind the show off threads. I just posted one this morning - not just to show off and say look at my expensive diapers but because the WAHM I got the order from is not super popular but her diapers are amazing (and unbelievably inexpenisve for the quality and materials) and I wanted to let others knows that. I was so impressed w/ her work and how friendly she was that I want to help her out with some positive word of mouth. I know this is not always the case but I think it is a lot of the time.

I use CPFs and snappis (have some pins but have yet to get the courage up to use them :LOL ) - I will be CDing a newborn in July and the majority of the stuff I have is very basic, and some fancy stuff too.

Anyway - I think there is room for everyone. And I think that diapering is one of the most friendly and accepting forums on MDC. I have tried to go to other forums and cant believe how people treat eachother so I mostly stick to the birth and beyond forum and diapering where people are nice.

I felt very rejected last night as a MDC mother and I HAVE heard that sentiment numerous times in regard to the diapering forum.. And it's been said numerous times on this thread by other members too..

I used to post a goodly amount over on diapering.. I never could understand the people who would say they didn't feel welcomed until last night..And if that happened to me as a Sr member who's been here almost 5 years.. I'd hate to imagine what a newer member would feel like..

Leila.. i'm sorry I was being so snarkified.. I was just really suprised by the reaction is all..

While I really don't know what the controversy is all about...

I wouldn't particlarly mind a separate forum for just stash pics, etc.... and the original forum for questions/discussions about cloth diapering.

I personally cannot afford to go hunting after hyena diapers, but I am a skilled seamstress, so I doubt I would if I could.... Nevertheless, I love looking at everyone's stashes!! Especially all the handdyed ones!! (Okay, so I'm a dyer too... lol)

I certainly hope that what is happening here isn't some elitest "we have the best diapers" issue. I mean, com'on... THEY'RE DIAPERS! Our sweet lil babes poo and pee in them!! hehehehe... I don't think they should be taken *THAT* seriously! *gasp!* :LOL

I'll be watching to see what happens!

I am sorry your past experiences were not pleasant for you There are definately good days and bad days in the forum and it seems the bad days get us labeled even tho they are the minority .... but I dont think anyone wants anyone else to feel bad about their stash. I dont like to use prefolds but I certainly dont look down on anyone who does... in fact I have more respect for those who do because I cant get the hang of it :LOL

I am sorry that you didn't feel welcome.

I believe that it happens on occation that you feel unwelcome. I know I have.....in other forums....at different times. It happens IRL too.

I don't think it displays an accurate dipiction of the forums though. In life there will always be those moments were we misunderstand one another or get snarky. It is hard to avoid. I know it feels icky (I've been there a couple times this week alone!)

Maybe there are some semantics issues going on. "Showing-off" has a negative meanining to me. I don't like showing off. If people were to do "show-off" threads about other purchases on mdc i would think it would be shot down pretty quickly. I understand what you are saying, so again, maybe just a semantics thing.

I think some of my concerns are coming out of the thread in Q & S about "more hoops to join mdc?". excellent reading about not getting the natural family living message watered down. if you have not read it (general you) i highly suggest it.

Diapering seems to be getting increasingly competetive. I don't like competition and it is not in line with my values. Is it in line with NFL?? Well, I can't make that call by myself.

And yes, I don't care what YOU spend on a diaper. But I also don't feel the need to know about it.

folks, they're poo catchers. nothing more, nothing less. you use them for about 2-3 years then they are returned to the earth. Some buy more, some buy less. some have more. some have less. some overconsume. some can't afford enough. As long as folks continue to diaper, all of the above will remain to be true. Do we really need a bunch of boards to fit all of the above?

The diapering mods came up with the term "show off".....just fyi

I dont see how cloth diapering of any kind "waters down" the natural family living. I breastfeed, cosleep, GD, wear my babies, dont vax, etc.... but because I like diapers other than prefolds and am willing to spend money to have them I am watering down the NFL message? I'm not sure I understand that correlation.... and this is not snarky

I may be wrong... but I got the undertone from your post that you think the diapering forum contains many mamas who are not AP/NFL and only here for the diapers and I dont believe that is true. Are there mamas who are not as AP/NFL as most on this site? Sure, but this isnt a contest and maybe they will grow the more they are here. I know I did My dd1 was fully vax'd and we thought time outs were ok. If it were not for me finding the diapering forum I would have never found the other forums that have changed who I am as a parent. If that isnt what you were implying... I'm sorry to have misread it (tho I have seen that brought up before in other places of MDC).

I think you'll find that a lot of mommas on Diapering agree with your feelings about the competetive nature of some diaper buying. There is at least one thread a month that inevitably turns bad and gets pulled. For those of us who've seen the hyena-cycle for a while, its just the way it has been for a while and will continue to be. I do worry that those new to cloth diapering will be turned off by the high prices some pay. I don't really know if there is a good solution for that. I take comfort in the multiple threads that I see daily that don't have anything to do with buying high priced diapers.

I wouldn't mind seeing a separate forum. This is just me--that hyena stuff seems a bit strange to me, I can't relate to it at all. I'm a frugal diaperer, and I've had some issues with my diapers...I've felt ignored in that forum, my posts slip down to the bottom so quickly, and I've had to post again to try to get some help, which I did eventually get.

I for one would love not to have to sift through all the "fluff" to get to what interests me.

But that is just your opinion - there are LOTS of mamas who go to the diapering forum JUST for recommendations - just because they want to see how a diaper actually fits on an actual baby, which is really hard to know when buying from a picture of just a diaper online.

I love seeing other peoples stash so that I can compare what shape/size their baby is and how certain diapers fit and hope I can find one that works well on my baby.

It may all be trivial to some people but THAT is one of the main things the diapering forum is for.

Does that make me any less NFL than anyone else? I am still a co-sleeping, baby wearing, non-circumsizing, selective vaxing, organic diet mama - none of that changes because I used fitted diapers in addition to CPFs.

no, that is not what is on my mind. i'm sure there are some not so nfl people in every part of mdc. hopefully exposure to mdc will help them on a crunchy journey.

i'm not saying that cloth diapering itself waters down a nfl message. but it seems very divisive lately--lots of controversial threads that i have stayed out of.

there seems to be a lot of competition. for me, that goes against MY nfl practices.

i am also concerned about newcomers getting sucked into the buy more mentality...if there wansn't a problem, there would not be a wagon right?

i was thinking that a separate hyena subforum would make it clear to new people that, yes, there is this subset of diaper users who are also collectors, but that is not necessarily the norm.

of course, it could have the opposite effect--that could become an elite clique of hyenas only.

what to do? talk about it and suggest various ideas.

and yes, i do know how generous mdc diaper mamas are. extremely.

I don't get it?

People think that the hyenas on the diapering board (and yup, I am one of them) should keep to themselves on another part of the diapering board because our diaper stash (and what we spent on them.. and yes I have spent more than some) makes other people feel uncomfortable?

Should I only post pictures of my prefolds then? Or my homemade knit by me soakers? And pretend I don't have other hard to get expensive stuff? Should I never show a picture of myself in anything namebrand? No pictures of myself on vacation?

If the board gets split and I post on the hyena board, would I not be welcome to talk about prefolds? Cuz yes I have a $100 diaper but I have cheap prefolds too (gasp.. and we use them!).

I am sorry, I know we are communicating but this makes me so angry.
